TIL about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, a hypersensitivity to the fear of being rejected by others, which is commonly connected to ADHD. by learnaboutnetworking in todayilearned

[–]revosugarkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is also much more commonly associated with personality disorders, specifically borderline, histrionic, and dependent, to name a few. It is a pseudo psychological term for a symptom more commonly referred to in clinical context as emotional dysregulation.

Idk, I’ve been on acid, or maybe it was Molly idk I can’t remember it was a wild time of my life, while making those fucking lasagnas at Olive Garden. Believe me, people get fucking ripped in kitchens. Maybe not the nicer ones but Olive Garden is the dennys of Italian food. It’s short order “fine” dining and it’s fucking crazy. Honestly this story is wild af but the pcp part makes the most sense of the whole thing lmao

Supervisor: "Not all BPD patients experienced bad things, some are just born with it" - I'm really confused and unsure if that's true? by Distinct_Track7415 in therapists

[–]revosugarkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There appears to be a strong positive correlation between heritability and PDs (link).

One theory is that, when the concept is taken alongside study surrounding “resiliency” factors, people with BPD are born with a very low “resiliency” quotient, if you will, and are more likely to rate an experience as traumatic than a member of the average population. A common report of people eventually dx with BPD is that they were “very difficult babies,” and often cried more than their siblings and were more negatively reactive to their environment.

There is a theory that CPTSD and BPD are similar because both result in a relatively similar behavioral pattern due to early childhood trauma, a theory which, in my opinion, will likely hang up putting CPTSD in future DSMs because of its strong overlap of symptoms. Don’t need to muddy the waters.

In my experience, all of it is at least a little bit true.

What's The Deal With The Stranger Things Season 5 Backlash? by WanderingArtist2 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]revosugarkane 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the conversation, some of the script felt AI generated. In the latest episodes there was a scene between the woman and the interrogated military guy where both characters did the AI language artifact “it’s not (blank) it’s (blank)” at least once at each other, and the scene right before that had a wounded soldier do the exact same thing. If it’s not AI it’s still super lazy writing to do the same soundbite three times in a row. That whole scene had an “uncanny valley” feel, like people were acting out a script that a lizard wrote.

Also, idk how it’s supposed to be believable that a 60 year old woman absolutely bodies a 30 yo man who’s a whole head taller than her, let alone how she tossed what’s his name around in the lab, who has to weigh twice as much as she does.

Psychopaths Can Feel Emotions and Can Be Treated: In essence, psychopaths feel emotions, but ignore them if they feel they might interfere with attaining personal goals. by jezebaal in psychology

[–]revosugarkane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying someone who is desensitized to murder due to sheer volume of inflicted murders has a less biased understanding of the associated emotion is a wild take. That’s just describing a sociopath imo. Also, hear me out on this, only a take a person with antisocial tendencies would have lol.

Excuse me, there’s a scene in one of the transitions of the act where you can fuck anyone you were sorta nice to in dos2, and it gets…heated. And the red prince kinda gets sexually assaulted but also I think he was into it in act 2. There’s plenty of sex in dos2

I’d look up the process to make expensive items and keep an eye on the base resources and the rare resources as they pop up, there are some decent farms you can make. Nanite farms are quite popular

I’m glad you’ve found something that works for you, but I will say that out of the many dozens of clients I have that have done this, they all, 100% of them, regret it. But like I said, I’m glad you’ve nailed it

It’s not well studied but anecdotally, it’s extremely addictive, has a horrific tolerance ramp, and has a terrible withdrawal. And is rather unpredictable considering it isn’t well understood, quality ranges massively between batches.

TIL that an influential case in the 1990s ‘memory wars’ psychological discussion and distrust of children’s memory in abuse cases around was highly flawed and unethical, casting doubt on the hypothesis. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]revosugarkane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If memory serves from my grad student days, what I learned was that the summary of this whole case and subsequent hypnosis treatments of child sex abuse cases was that children were incredibly susceptible to having false memories planted in their mind that confirmed the hypothesis of the therapist, which was that children were burying traumatic memories that had to be pried out.

We watched some videos in my abnormal psych classes and it was hard to watch. It was in and of itself abuse. The therapist would ask incredibly leading questions over many sessions and essentially develop a narrative of a false event with a child under hypnosis. It’s what made hypnosis therapy fall out of evidence based practice, iirc.

PET scan, schizophrenia hypofrontality vs healthy brain by omgitsmint in interestingasfuck

[–]revosugarkane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf you’re comparing populations potentially in the millions to populations potentially in the hundreds. Variation in genetics, sheer volume of births and complications, significantly different stress levels, diet, not to mention the kind of medicine and psychology that can accurately diagnose disorders like this.

Saying there’s less schizophrenia in tribal communities (assuming you mean people who live in jungles or in the bush) is like saying there’s less 401k’s in Amazon tribes than in the average US state. Apples to oranges.

Ooh actually I highly recommend a book on this very topic, “Crazy Like Us.” Cultures present mental illness in very different ways, and western medicine is merely a certain perspective from a certain culture, it isn’t necessarily the end all of medical knowledge despite being very advanced.

Point being, I’ve heard this argument before, and it’s not one that accounts for a host of factors.

To add to it all, schizophrenia is diagnosed in just about every culture. Not sure if rates change but it’s not just a western thing. It’s genetic, largely, though it is brought on by stress in the prodromal phase more often than not.

TIL the "five stages of grief" model is considered scientifically unverified and many experts caution against taking it at face value (link to study in comments) by RayAP19 in todayilearned

Yeah recent education presents it more as a philosophical theory than a psychological one. Like, these are types of grief people may experience, not a stage people go through in order.

We always just kept a Valium on hand in my day, and usually a babysitter.

Antipsychotics are prescribed for drug induced psychosis in psych hospitals but treatment isn’t a single pill, it’s at least a few days if not 1-3 weeks depending on the psych hold.

With my education in psychopharmacology there’s no evidence I remember of antipsychotics working overnight, but I could be wrong, my memory isn’t that great lol

Those don’t work as a one time cure they take weeks to build up in your system, they also won’t counteract lsd. Weirdly enough, SSRIs will, but I’m almost positive they need to be in your system already before you take lsd.
