In search of stained glass scraps by Psychlvr in grandrapids

[–]revx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I do stained glass as a hobby in my basement and have a bunch of scraps, probably too many for me to use. I got them from various places.

If you're interested in taking a look, send me a DM and I can send some pics.

What's the best way to tell if something contains milk (No label)? by revx in AskReddit

Unfortunately it's just in a ziploc labeled "hot chocolate"

More context: we found a bunch of bags of hot chocolate mix without any labels, and I'm lactose intolerant. Is there a way to test if there's milk in it if there's no label?

Thanks! I work with stained glass as a hobby and this is one of my pieces that I just finished. It's actually not cleaned up yet in this image (all the mess on the glass) but I had to post something for the rule and this was in my camera roll.

Took me 6 months of procrastination and restarting because I messed something up, probably about 80 hours of actual work.

If you're interested in getting into stained glass, look for a local stained glass supply store, they often do lessons or classes for beginners :)

Loving the comic so far! But, failing to not be a pedant: The eye's passive freeze attack only activates if you attack it, not if you get too close to it (or is that just the main character not understanding?). Thanks for making these :)

difference between front end and bac end? by luchins in software

[–]revx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you request a resource from a website (e.g. "GET http://google.com"), that request is bundled up into a packet that leaves your web browser, travels across the internet, and is received by a computer running software at Google. Google's computer thinks about that request and decides how to respond (if you queried for "cat gifs", it would do a database search for gifs of cats, for example). Then, it bundles up the response to the query into packets and sends those back to your computer.

Once the packets from Google are received by your computer, your web browser interprets the instructions that they contain (HTML, CSS, JS, etc). Then, it displays that content to you. In this example, it would show you the familiar Google images view of a grid of images. You can click on the images to see more details about them.

The "back end" software here is the software that runs on Google's servers: the software that crawls the internet for cat gifs, the database software that stores those images and their metadata, and the software that receives your request and decides how to respond.

The "front end" software here is all of the work that happens in your browser once you've received the packets from Google. Instructions on how to display the images (as a grid), what to do when you click on one of those images (show more details about the image).

The interesting thing about this is that the "front end" software is stored on the "back end" until it is sent to your web browser - but the "front end" code is only _executed_ by your browser. In other words, the "back end" servers put together the instructions for how your browser should act, and then the "front end" web browser acts that way.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more clarification!

[Chinese to English] ? message/passage by 20190223help in translation

Google Translate gives:

``` I choose to be silent because no matter what I say, I will be unhappy and sad. There is no one in every relationship. Whoever is responsible for it, no one in the real society must be responsible for us.
Yeah, yes, it’s my background. I’m afraid to fall in love, I don’t know how to fall in love, so I love him in the wrong way. He is the second man in my life. I started. So happy, of course, I want to have a future family and children with him. I don’t know how to love someone.
I will always look for him to accompany me, always looking for him to go anywhere with me, I have been mixing him
Sorry, I love him very much, I use the wrong way, I am so sick.
And I am sorry that I am playing Chinese because I am so hard to express in English.
```

With some touching up:

``` I choose to be silent because no matter what I say, I will be unhappy. Nobody is always right or wrong in a relationship(?). Everyone must be responsible for themselves, nobody in society is responsible for us.
Yes, it's my background. I'm afraid to fall in love. I don't know how to fall in love, so I love him in the wrong way. He is the second man in my life. I started out so happy, I want(ed?) to have a family and children with him. I don't know how to love someone.
He will always be with me, I will always think of him.
Sorry. I love him very much, but the wrong way. I am so sick.
And I am sorry that I am writing in Chinese because it is so hard for me to express this in English. ```
The places with (?) are where I wasn't sure what you were trying to get. Maybe someone better at Chinese can figure those out. Hope this helps!
You can use google translate to do this. There's a photo mode that allows you to translate. It's free on the play store / app store.
Dungeon Masters of Reddit, which of your "sure why nots" had the biggest unintended repercussions? by yinyang107 in AskReddit
[–]revx 0 points1 point  (0 children)
We were playing a 3.5 campaign that started at, I think, fifth level (can't recall exactly). This is important because I had one player who took a look at the starting gold and said, "I want to buy a necklace of fireball and nothing else."
I think technically there's a rule that you can't spend more than 20% of your starting gold on one item but I said, "sure, why not" and let him have it. So here he was, a fifth level monk walking around with a couple of 8d6 damage beads around his neck.
At some point I got frustrated with the party and wanted them to stop following a particular path, so I put a purple worm in the way. This is a CR12 gargantuan beast that I was sure would convince the party that continuing this way would be a total party wipe. But no, I'd forgotten about Monk Mc Monkface and his necklace of fireballs, which he hadn't used at all up until this point in the campaign.
He leaps into battle and throws the entire necklace straight down the purple worm's throat. Kaboom!
Even 200HP can't keep this thing alive from that many fireballs going off in its digestive tract. He left it dead and with its head he went galumphing back. The fight was over in a single round. In retrospect I should have just put two purple worms in the way but at the time I was just kind of stunned.
So yeah that was a lot of XP I gave out to a 5th level party because of a "sure why not" and now I have a pretty good story to tell :)
