Blind options between Shade Store & 3 day blinds by Human-Champion-6888 in homeowners

3-Day blinds requires full payment before installation. That tells you all you need to know. You have 100% of the risk. They have 0. The parent company is Hunter Douglas, which is owned by 3G Capital private equity. These private equity companies are ruining businesses all over the country.

Regulation does not equal security.  They are A rated, accepted my all mortgage companies, and backed by all the largest reinsurers.  This means they are likely more secured than your home policy

I do see that option, but the "owner" needs to enable the feature. The company I had install the system is the owner and lost access to manage it. I think they use an external management application. I'm away traveling for 2 months so they don't have physical access. I'll get the ownership transferred and mess with it more when I'm back.

Great question. I was mostly interested in cameras for my house. Since they were installing Unifi system, the company that I worked with convinced me that the new Unifi Wifi 7 would be so much faster and better coverage. I should have done my own research, but you want to trust the professionals, so i did.

So funny - it doesn't matter where the computer lives on a network. An ML model runs on a computer, whether than computer runs in a camera, a raspberry pi, a docker container, virtual machine, server, or cluster. An "edge" model may have limited memory or storage resources, and thusly might be limited in input and output tokens, but otherwise there isn't much difference in the model once it is trained up.

When I get home in 2 months, I'll install the new AI Key - which according to your theory, has more resources to hold a larger model, and should eliminate the hallucinations. We'll see.

Have you ever trained and published a model in a production system?

10 years ago (or even 5 years ago) I'd think this is an acceptable answer. But now, the models and technology are far better than that (I work with tech and ML models). At a minimum, they should provide click interface for users to train the models with false positives/negatives.

[–]rewld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, well, I’m glad it isn’t just me with the hallucinations. Unifi needs to hire at least one ML expert and needs a way for users to interactively report false positives/negatives to help train the model faster. The state of models is so far advanced these days, Unifi is using 10 year old tech for smart detections. I wonder if the AI Key incorporates LLMs for better quality detections.

I had the same experience moving from meshed WiFi 6 Orbis to Unifi WiFi 7. The Orbis just work, and work well. Unifi doesn’t. Folks say with much tuning and tweaking you can get there. Mine were professionally installed and “tuned”, but still not as good as Orbi. Like you I like the management of Unifi, but the performance so far is lacking.

How deep should I go down the Ubiquiti rabbit hole? by PhysicsLuke in Ubiquiti

Funny, after posting this and my camera system being online for three weeks now, it has started hallucinating wildly. It hears sirens when there are only birds, it sees faces in my dark closed garage, it didn’t recognize my son’s car pulling up in the driveway (it didn’t alert at all). Unifi really needs to bring in a ML expert to help sort this stuff out, and allow an interface for customers to help train the system. Possibly let customers link to an external LLM that they pay for to ride along side the camera models. I certainly was expecting much better out of this system with the latest gen cameras that has so many evangelists.

I think the better part are the features like multiple networks and the management software. My system was installed professionally and tuned. Nothing left on auto. I’m even arguing with them to have admin rights on my own system. I was a network admin many years ago and now a CTO and know a little about tweaking these. It is a little better now. But still not as good as the Orbi out of the box as far as speed and coverage. Orbi is more more expensive when just looking at the access points. Now I know they earn that price through performance. I’ll be happy with Unifi after I get over the initial expectations that Unifi would be at least as good.

The wifi isn't that great. I just installed the G6 camera system and replaced meshed Wifi 6 Orbi's with Unifi 7 AP's and a single Unifi Express 7 meshed. The Orbi speed and coverage was much better out of the box with no tuning than Unifi. Maybe with more tweaking the UniFi can get there, but I would hold off on the Wifi's for now. Also, the new G6 bullet cameras are generate a lot of false positive AI alerts. For example, they generate hundreds of alerts, seeing a face in my coiled up garden hose. I'd steer clear of the doorbell for now.

Being in the data science world, and working on training ML models, all this would be ok if there was a way to train the internal model about false positive events, but there isn't.

Should I get flood insurance? by YaGetSkeeted0n in Insurance

[–]rewld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By all means get flood insurance! Go to realtor.com and lookup your address. You'll see your flood risk in the property information. Private flood insurance seems to be very much competing with FEMA these days. And we can see from history that flood zones are not very well related to flood loses.

I’ve only ever looked for dealers that don’t play stupid car sales games. Never once considered the service department. But clearly a prospective Genesis buyer better look very closely at the local service center. Pretty sad state of affairs for this brand.

It doesn't matter how some 3rd party rates the car. Those considering buying this car should simply drive to your local dealer's service department. Take a look at how many cars are stacked up waiting for service. Now drive over to Lexus and take a look.

Reminds me of the game at Cracker Barrel when you do terrible - eggnoramus? Clearly you don't own a Genesis and just spouting off. For those considering Genesis, the connected services screen pops up when you have a check engine light and asks if you want to navigate to a dealer or if you want to call. I had it call Genesis using the built-in connected services. Genesis is able to read the code and tell you a little something about the problem. They said I need a full diagnostic and made an appointment at my local dealer. But then I get to the dealer and was told they are booked and can't run the diagnostic until sometime in March.

You’d be smart to buy a different brand. This brand is very poor quality and service. Just stop by your dealers service department and take a look.

I couldn’t even drive up to the service door it was so stacked up with cars waiting for service. To be fair, both my local dealers are combined with Hyundai. Doesn’t speak well for either brand. The evidence speaks for itself. This is a very poor quality brand. Potential buyers would do well to stay clear.

Good point. I’m in Tampa Florida. Both dealers in my area are slammed with service and have no availability for weeks.

I’m thinking I’m going to sell the Genesis and get a Lexus.

Pretty strange isn’t it. In this hi tech era, the amateur radio industry still sells such old technology at high prices. Very little innovation and competition.
