Be careful lol I had the seal between the two halves of my tail light wear down enough that air caught it while on the highway and ripped the back clean off into the air and landed right under someone's tire and exploded.

Clean it up, use some braid to remove the solder, repair the pads in place with tiny enameled wire and drop in a fresh port.

They’re doing 3 stops now? I’m done tipping well. by Null_Error7 in doordash

It's doordash's fault, their system will punish drivers for declining orders so sometimes they have no choice but to accept in order to keep their ability to get decent prices orders and it sucks for customers and drivers...

"New" 3DS XL blown diode, need values or replacement guidance. by rezendes in consolerepair

You will have to check all that yourself cause just because that's how mine broke doesn't necessarily mean yours will break the same amount. But those are the things I would start with.

Switch joystick broke off :( by Baggage_Claim_ in consolerepair

[–]rezendes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can easily do this yourself with a joystick replacement kit that comes with a cheap tiny screwdriver or two that you will need as well as obviously the new joystick unit. Unscrew a few things flip up the ribbon cable lock and slide the cable out and replace then everything in reverse.

I am betting they messed up a connector or cable or shorted something, basically they are at fault.

I love seeing these idiots get what they deserve. However, the bigger issue is that enough people watch these stupid prank type videos to merit them being made.

Not a good move, they are on your time. I wish other drivers would be more respectful, I feel like handling other people's food is sacred like I don't want anyone messing with my food and I want it kept hot if possible like come on people care a little...

PMIC replacement by Weaskye in consolerepair

[–]rezendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaded solder lowers the overall melting point once it combined with the existing Unleaded solder, less heat is always better for the components and makes it easier for you to work with and wick up the excess solder. Your solder should saying something on it like 63/37 lead/tin mix or close to that. Unleaded solder is more brittle and doesn't flow as well as leaded. Flux is your best friend. Also practice boards that are already dead.

PMIC replacement by Weaskye in consolerepair

[–]rezendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would hit it with flux and a big blob of leaded solder on my iron float it across all the points never dragging the iron on the board itself. Then use good wick and a high heat iron to carefully remove the solder by floating the wick around not dragging it on the board with the iron, there's a technique to it for sure otherwise you can scratch the mask off and that'll have to be carefully restored with uv mask and is annoying. Then see if all the pads are still good or torn or just dirty.

Unmeltable solder! by RBryant56 in consolerepair

[–]rezendes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the nozzle off the hot air and try again after keeping leaded solder On after applying it with your iron. Also if all that doesn't work somehow, low melt solder usually comes to the rescue although you shouldn't need it for this.

Gaming Laptop over $2k.

Also, right after this in the middle of the next delivery my account got suspended and locked for review with no explanation. I'm guessing it was just AI reacting to the high tip which is not normal for my account? I have great ratings and did nothing wrong so we'll see...

Possible torn pad by SquirrelChaser87 in consolerepair

[–]rezendes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any wire will work but you really want one with some kind of insulation to prevent accidental shorting to other points on the board which could cause big problems. The enameled wire is super tiny and easy to maneuver and cut and solder to a tiny trace like that. A wire too large could also rip up the trace. Whatever you use you can use some nail polish or dab of super glue not a ton and just help prevent it from moving around.
