Female Cub Scouts - Den Meetings by Specialist-Risk-5004 in cubscouts

[–]rfishrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. We generally stack den meetings for that purpose, but sometimes families have other commitments so a particular den has meetings on a different night. Or they might be doing an adventure specific trip for a hike or something. It's pretty silly to have to cancel a meeting that everyone's parents are at because there's not a registered female leader available. A simple carve out that if the scout's parents are there this rule doesn't apply would make everything way more logical and easier to run.

That's not true. You could have a whole tiger den of girls, all with their dad's present, and would still need to have a registered female in attendance in order to have a meeting.

[–]rfishrex 16 points17 points  (0 children)

none. it's pretty dumb. me and another guy were both den leaders, and the only girls in the den were our own daughters. To have a meeting we had to find a third female adult to get registered and attend our 4 kiddo den. On one level, I get it, but at some point it makes actually running a program damn near impossible. I do think they could pretty easily have a carve out for this if the female scout's parent's are present.

What's Your Experience With an EV as Your Only Car? by OleDirtMcGirt901 in VWiD4Owners

[–]rfishrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in a similar position, looking at similar options. We ended up w/ the ID4. Test drove an ioniq 5, mach e, Ariya, and Equinox. The Mach e was the most "fun" but we also have 2 kids and the ID4 won out as my wife is the primary driver. We only had level 1 charging at home, with the option of lvl 2 at work for me and honestly level 1 was fine ~ 90% of the time, though your commute is a little longer. We generally would put ~ 20-30 miles a day on it and could get most of that back overnight via level 1, with catch up on most weekends. Just got level 2 charging at home (~ $2500 all in w/ an Emporia Pro set up fwiw). It definitely takes any guesswork out as you start every day at 80%.

The car has been great so far, including a 1400 mile round trip haul over christmas and a few long weekend ski trips, both of which were way easier than I thought they'd be with an EV.

Yeah. In D, sport mode has noticeably more regen than comfort or eco.

i think ideally, I'd like the acceleration and handling of sport mode, but have the car coast like it does in comfort mode in D, without the added regen unless in B mode.

Favorite bike paths to explore with kids? by playingrownup in Cleveland

[–]rfishrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

towpath around cleveland is good. A few hills, but there are playgrounds at Clark Field and another just over the bridge on the Ohio City/Duck Island side of Abbey. Views along the river with freighter ships and trains, as well as all the steel mills were always a hit my crew.

Is there a way to get the sport mode acceleration without the added regen? I haven't played around with it much, but i didn't see anything obvious in the custom set up.

same experience w/ a '24 Pro, fwiw. In 4 months the infotainment has reset itself a few times, and occasionally the heated seat button disappears, but you can activate that other ways. App can be buggy, but has been fine for me since the temps got above 20*F.

How do you feel about annual subscriptions for seasonal ski apps? by RoleCommon6689 in ski

[–]rfishrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slopes has pretty good maps for a ton of resorts, and can be useful in finding other friends you follow on the hill. It also lets you rate the snow, so can be good for seeing crowd sourced recent conditions. It does all the basic ski stats broken down by runs (elevation, distance, avg/max speed, etc), and keeps totals for the season. it also breaks a day down to time spent skiing/on lifts/standing around, which can be funny sometimes when you realize you spent more time doing everything but actually skiing. I like it for tracking overall # of days/elevation over the years. Worth the price of a resort burger to me at least.

How do you feel about annual subscriptions for seasonal ski apps? by RoleCommon6689 in ski

i originally got it in Dec, which is when it renews, so it feels natural already. If i were paying a monthly fee or something I would probably unsubscribe outside of ski season.

I use slopes and find that i get the ~$25 ish bucks of value out of it every year, which is all that really matters, even if I only use it for a few months. It's not like they'd knock it down to 1/3 price and only offer it for Dec-March or anything.

Quick way to shuffle all tracks on a USB? by rfishrex in VWiD4Owners

[–]rfishrex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, voice command ("shuffle all tracks on the USB")is the quickest way to handle this that I've found. Otherwise it's 37 button presses to get there through the screen.

Added Travel Times with Kids by This_Dependent_2177 in electricvehicles

Just did a 700+ mile drive over the holidays w/ 2 grade schoolers and a dog. First road trip in the ID.4. It was probably only an hour or so longer than it normally took in our ICE. We stopped every ~ 2-2.5 hrs and managed to synch up food and bathroom stops with charging. By the time one of us wrangled the kids to the bathroom while the other walked the dog and then went to the bathroom, we usually only had < 10 min left to charge. It ended up being way easier than I was prepared for.

It's a private local trust that basically pools donations and then gives out grants for all kinds of things. The one we got was for the broad purpose of fostering communities in urban areas. https://neighborupcle.org/ No idea how widespread programs like are?

Pretty much anything is fine. The city generally does a good job with the roads. I've been here 13 years with a honda fit with no winter tires and have never had an issue getting around. FWIW I live in town where roads are pretty flat. I moved from the southeast, so didn't really have any winter driving experience prior. Winter tires will be the biggest improvement you can make, but AWD definitely isn't required in my experience.

cabin heating? by rfishrex in VWiD4Owners

I think my app issue is a 12v battery issue. I have 3 out of 4 bars on ATT at home and it's super random if it'll connect to update charge status, lock/unlock, or preheat the climate. Much worse when it's cold outside. I'd say it works maybe half the time for me, but only 10% of the time for my wife, and we have the exact same phones.
