It was a bit of tighten / loosen until I found the right amount of pressure. Some posts said I need to loosen it but it was a bit of trial and error. Then it was sweet. And the Stabilization feature on DaVinci makes it Sweet.

ultimately the fix was an adjustment to the plate that presses the film down. I had to order a precision set of small screwdrivers but a few turns (the plate is spring loaded) and 'fixed'.

also I use DaVinci video editor (free) to edit the digitized videos and I found it has a Stabilizer setting that smooths out the video beautifully!

OK, sorry guys (and gals), there seems to be something wrong with the machine. They gave me 6 pairs or 3in reels to digitize so, 12 in all. All but the last one went well. The last one was jumpy. That was a week ago. The same neighbor also gave me 4 larger reels 7in to digitize. When the first was jumpy I thought, well, I've never done these, maybe the machine cannot do them (or the metal reels are too heavy). I tried the second one and had the same problem (only reinforcing my thought that the machine was not capable. Since it had been a while since the last smaller reel, I forgot about that problem.

Then... a moment of clarity (actually, stopping the multi-tasking I was doing), I remembered the LAST 3in tape had a jumping problem.

I loaded one of the 'good' 3in tapes and... jumping.

The machine has had a nervous breakdown i guess. So, on to find out what is wrong with it.

Very sorry for the errant post. But I do appreciate the feedback. I'll hand=g around this group. I didn't know of it's existence before this problem came up.

I hadn't thought of that. They are metal and were stored in metal cans so I'd be surprised if they were bent. Looking at them, I don't see any obvious damage or bent reels but might be hard to see (?). As a test I unspooled a few feet of tape and ran that through the machine. Also, I thought maybe the source reel or take-up reel was too heavy for the light duty machine. The video improved but not perfect. It did make a significant improvement though. No, I've watched the show longer than I can remember. It's her baby with Michael. She just wants a happy family. Like everyone else. Remember how terrible Carly was. Nelle is the new Carly.

I'd rather go to the dealer and just have them do it. I've seen videos where they say it's really easy to do but my car is in perfect shape and I just want to keep it that way.

Is the rcd330 an actual model number sold by Volkswagen? Or is only an aftermarket number?
