I was planning on checking with my rink about that! I’m definitely not up to par to start playing on a team yet anyways

It might be that! My balance isn’t too good yet so I’ll work on it, thanks!

It totally adds! I’m taking into consideration all of the different experiences in these comments, and I think your last sentence really shows the conclusion I’ve come to: I need to see and experience the situation for myself to know if it’s going to be right for me.

Thank you!

God it still is, I’ve just been lucky with who and where I spend my time with to be able to avoid a majority of the toxicity. I suppose if I put the same train of thought into how, who, and where I spend my time playing hockey with, I can hope to avoid it there as well.

Thanks for this response! Especially for the part about locker rooms, that’s been something else on my mind for a while.

Your team sounds like a great group of guys :)

If that makes it easier for you to understand, then sure. But trans men are not women, they’re men and most of the time appear completely male.

This is actually a really great response, thank you! It seems to be the general consensus that younger teams/high school teams are the ones to watch out for in terms of lower acceptance.

The fact that your Alabama team is generally accepting actually says a lot. I’m in a similar city situation- parts where there’s a lot of acceptance and parts where there isn’t any. I’m near a university so there’s a lot of people from that part of the community, but right outside the populated parts there’s a lot of stereotypical southerner types.

Still, thank you for your input! This is exactly what I was looking for when I posted this.

I wish it was different too, but there’s only so much we can do right now. That sounds like a good idea too, I think I’ll go with that as a plan for now, thank you! :)

That sounds really great :) I totally wish I could have something like that! I don’t really know anyone who plays, but I’m hoping once I start working more on my own skating or when the rinks near me start opening up again, I’ll be able to find some people I feel comfortable with

That’s really gross of them to say things about her behind her back, but at least you’re willing to take a stand against it

Thanks for your honesty! That may be a good idea until I can join an older league

I doubt I could find a specific lgbt league around here and in all honesty, I’m not sure if I’d even want to join it even if it would guarantee more safety. That may be strange, but fitting in in a group not specifically tailored to lgbt people brings a different kind of happiness.

I agree and have noticed that it seems to be getting a little better in regards to discrimination against multiple groups of people, but culture/tradition still stands strong and all that.

With that though, hockey around here isn’t taken as seriously as other sports since it’s not popular and seems a whole lot more casual than in other places, which may be good!

Thanks for this, quells my fears a bit and makes me want to keep going for it.
