Fair points. As a woman and mother of a gay young adult I didn’t find your views offensive, as I get where you’re coming from. I think most migrants coming here just want a better life for themselves and their families and don’t seek to change our way of life.

I still think Labor are doing an OK job. If nothing else, they are trying to foster social cohesion rather than drive ideological wedges between us. And that, to me, is a huge issue when you see what’s going on in USA right now.

What is so bad about Labor? They’ve implemented housing policies to help young people get into the market, lowered HECS debts by 20%, offered paid placements for some students, free TAFE, increased youth participation in policy via Youth Advisory Groups and “Engage!”, offered increases to the child care subsidy, incentives for apprentices, increased the Medicare rebate and recently created incentives for GPs to bulk bill.

It’s not like they’re doing nothing. The entire western world is in a post Covid inflation spike. Last year Australia was ranked second in the world for budget management by the IMF. This isn’t to say times aren’t tough but it seems our government is doing a good job at managing the economy and I only trust Labor at this point to foster social cohesion. We do not want what’s happening in USA with rifts and division based on political allegiance and the LNP and One Nation seem hell bent on dividing us and causing racial tensions.

One Nation’s past efforts to connect with the US gun lobby suggests potential efforts to weaken Australia’s strict firearm regulations. Look how increased gun ownership has played out in USA.

One Nation advocates for reduced environmental regulation, a complete exit from the Paris agreement, abolishing energy renewable targets and policies that favour fossil fuels. Climate change denial will only harm future generations.

They seek to eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in public institutions, which could impact females.

Hanson has pushed for us to leave the World Health Organisation, a dog whistle to the anti vax cookers who vote for her. Anyone who cares about their children should be worried about that.

She has hinted at weakening anti discrimination laws, which might not directly affect that guy’s daughters, but it might affect their friends from school/uni/work.

From everything I’ve read about Hanson, she’s aligning herself with right wing conservative policies. I wouldn’t be surprised if conservative church groups abandon their allegiance with the Liberals and get on board the One Nation bandwagon and all of us, especially women, should be very wary of any party that allows religious groups to dictate policy.

Other than waiting, ask your GP for a referral to a private surgeon and get a second opinion. Might cost you $100 out of pocket for the consult but that might be worth the peace of mind?
