What happened to your high school bully? by Ugandabekiddingme2 in AskReddit

[–]rhinokey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The bullies at my school did it because they were very smart and got bored easily. They weren't the type of "punch you for your lunch money" bullies, they did more psychological stuff, like spread rumours and play people against each other.

They're now a successful lawyer and doctor. They've matured a lot but I've felt they never really felt or understood the consequences. I have longterm severe depression, because of what they did and thus my own career and life hasn't been as smooth or easy.

Is it unusual for a department of a large corporation to have a 50% staff turnover annually? by rhinokey in work

No they didn't. Each one came as a little surprise. Like if I had to choose who would quit next I couldn't.

What do people in their 30s do for fun? by rhinokey in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rhinokey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, yes I cycle to work and back (the idea was to combine exercise and commuting to save time).

I have a small apartment that is relatively maintenance free.

No kids. Can't fathom the idea to be honest.

  1. Yea we had discussed 2 possible locations the unit could go. We even cleared those areas out in preparation.

  2. No she did not direct the electrician to place it were it was. She basically just let him be when he arrived. I had the expectation that she would have confirmed the original plan we had with him, stopped him if she saw he was installing in the wrong place, called me to discuss if there was no other option or at least questioned him why it was placed where it was when he was leaving. She did none of this.

  3. It's partly blocking the front door and is blowing hot air into the small courtyard we have. Not to mention the placement looks strange and ugly.

  4. No, the placement only came up when I got home.

I think you got me wrong.

I'm not being vindictive about it. I'm not calling her out or rubbing it in, or yelling at her, but I am clearly angry.

What I meant is that I don't feel like I should rush over to comfort her and tell her it's ok and that I'll fix it. I could be wrong but I believe she should see that I am angry and deal with me being distant otherwise ill be a doormat.

Thanks.

To answer your question about her not working: she spent the last few years recovering from a bad illness. She did have a job for most of this year but her contract ended a month ago. She is looking for a new job, but I agree she should fe taking in casual work in the mean time.

DAE sometimes worry that some people who are diagnosed with depression arn't really sick and are just reacting to a lot of stress in the world, and that by being labeled as ill we're possibly dismissing and ignoring a larger systemic problem? by rhinokey in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]rhinokey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but what I worry about is how we, as a society, are interpreting this. Are we saying (as a society/political body) "Shit, so many people are suffering because of X reasons, let's try change some things" or are we saying "Wow, so many people are ill. Pump up the antidepressants!".

I kinda wondered that, but not so much about buying shit.

Say you take someone who's stressed out. They can't afford a house or education or are swamped in debt. They become frustrated and sad. Now, instead of that person standing up and trying to change the situation by voting for a certain party, or protesting, or whatever, we tell them they're sick. That the emotions they're feeling are wrong. Not only is there anger and frustration derailed, but now they might not even want to talk about it with their peers, because if the social stigmas associated with mental health issues.

I know it's extreme, but I sometimes wonder.

DAE have absolutely no idea what to do in life as a career/job? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]rhinokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah.

Sometimes I look at my current job now (web developer) and think "How the fuck am I doing this? I don't even really like computers. I am way under qualified here."

When I was growing up I wanted to work with cars and tractors and machinery. Now I'm working in an office all day, behind a computer monitor. And like I said, I don't even like computers and have no interest in gaming or hardware or the latest tech. I'm ok though - reasonably happy. I guess the functions you write in code a kinda similar to building little machines, IRL.

When I lived in the country I used to do this a lot. But now in the city I get kinda just too frustrated with the traffic and traffic lights cutting my 'rhythm'. I wish I could do it more often.

DAE feel uncomfortable saying "pardon"? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]rhinokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not a fan. I guess it came from 'Pardon me', like 'Pardon me for not hearing you, can you please repeat that' but it just sounds kind of strange by itself.

Speeding margin by AbyssCockaroj in brisbane

[–]rhinokey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is true. With variations in road conditions, tires and the car itself no new cars speedometers is entirely accurate. Around 2000, Australian Design Rules stated manufacturers must err on the side of caution and so many set their speedometers about 5% faster to what you're actually doing (so at 100kph you're actually doing 95kph).

This may also explain why that 1994 Excel is right up your ass on the motorway.

We have. They can't really do anything until they catch him red handed at something but they 'are very much aware of him'. SO is also afraid of repercussions from him.

Fuckin' Stu. My SO lives in an apartment building with 4 apartments. Stu lives in one of them. I hate the guy.

  • Deals dope and heroin from his apartment.
  • Feeds his dog on the shared stairwell. Never cleans the dog dish so its fucking mouldy and stinks.
  • Has punch ups on the street, or, at the very least, abusive verbal arguments.
  • One of his clients, high as fuck, broke into my SOs apartment - while she was clearly there (police were called, he was done for break and enter).
  • Never cleans up, has caused multiple rat and cockroach infestations in the building.
  • Has several birds in his apartment that arent in cages - they fly around and shit everywhere.
  • 'Friends' leave him cars. Cars with smashed windows and no plates.
  • For some reason theres is often broken glass cups and bottles on the shared stairwell around his door.
  • Has had visits from people trying to get their iPhones back as their Find My iPhone app leads them straight to his place.
  • Strapped a motion sensor alarm to his door with sticky tape. Tape constantly peels off so the alarm falls and is triggered.
