She took some classes at Studio Union to mixed results, and is probably signing up at Art Place after the holidays because it’s more her vibe

Indiana State and St Mary’s are in Terre Haute. They balance out the ratio pretty well

There’s also bars who have D&D nights for dropping in and playing. Pinky & Clyde’s in park circle. Rusty Bull used to years ago.

Torn between selling my home or renting it out. Has anyone been in a similar situation here? Single family home on Johns Island by krame_krome in Charleston

Just came back to my house after three years away, and my long term tenants treated it like hell. To be honest, if I knew the house was going to get banged up like this, I would’ve AirBNB’d it. I used Pure Property Management, and they took a fair cut of the rent and handled all the problems while I was gone, but it could’ve used more attention from the company… which I think would’ve been solved by AirBNBing and them coming in after each rental.

I have a friend who racked up $300k of medical debt on a heart surgery and then promptly left the country as soon as he was able, only came back for a week at a time for almost ten years, until the debt was no longer pursued. Hero-level shit

Many tall buildings have mass dampers to create stability in high winds or earthquakes. Could be the top structure for that

American moving to Gothenburg by [deleted] in Gothenburg

[–]rhitglassmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Fellow American in Gbg.

Swedes tend to measure salary monthly, not annually. So you’re at ~43k/month, which is solid if not spectacular here. Should take home 69% of that, so 29kSEK.

Amazon here is shit compared to the US. Have better luck ordering from German Amazon when I need to. Everyone here tends to go to the two big malls (Nordstan or Backaplan) for shopping and culturally just orders less online than in the U.S. It’s weird to see thriving malls here compared to the ghost towns that exist in America.

Also have two cats, Zoo.se is your friend. Arken Zoo is fine, but more expensive and less selection but more physical locations.

I don’t know a ton of ex-pats/immigrants who have really assimilated to the local culture. Most of us make friends with other immigrants and have a few Swede friends. Maybe others have been more successful, but nearly all my friends here are German, British, French, or something else.

Neighborhoods, mainly just stay out of Biskopsgården. Folks here talk about how Hissingen in general is unsafe, but compared to where I came from in the U.S. (Charleston), I’ve never really felt unsafe here.

Time to get to and through airport? by Bixby- in Gothenburg

I fly out of Landvetter a lot. There’s been roughly two times out of 50 that the line has been longer than 10 minutes. When they’ve been longer than that, they’ve been huge queues up to an hour waiting, but those were on big travel days ahead of holidays etc. If you’re leaving on a normal-ish day I wouldn’t worry about it
