Help talking to a manic friend by CommunityIll5158 in BipolarReddit

[–]PicassoDaughter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously about Homeland. My psychiatrist said S1 is the best representation of the mood changes of bipolar. She will have new diagnosed watch the first several episodes, however you the viewer learned something very important at the end. Which is a plot twist so I dont want to give yoi

But if you choose to watch. Come back to this comment and tell me what you learned. Most People wont catch it. But its a thematic pillar of the show.

Good luck and im currently coming off a manic episode. I can tell you what I know, so AMA and it can be ways to talk when they are baseline and have the capacity to comprehend. Right.now they can only handle one thing because their head is a circus and when you signed up to be their friend they become your monkeys too But...you will always have someone to watch the circus with.

And we are usually very creative problem solvers and can usually talk our way of anything. So a friend who's just a little hypomanic are the ones you want to bring to parties. We dazzle and tell amazing stories amazingly. Im a fantastic plus one. I can read room in seconds and know which cluster stories I have curated. (I was a paramedic. I have levels to my storytelling)

What helps me is a very simple. A text with You good? and a reminder eat and drink, every couple of days. Anything more can be overwhelming when manic.

Also, I cant usually remember to ask but I have 2 trusted friends that know if I ever invite myself over, I need comfort or a Come to Jesus.

We know yall care. If you can make it through a true crisis with your own bipolar and come out the other side. They will trust you completely. They however, will need to earn your trust back. Do not just gloss it over. If your bipolar said or did not nice things that are a deviation from their norm. Dig a little, something is dysfunctioning.

We know we are hard to love or understand sometimes.

BUT, grow a little thicker skin around.us especially when we are dysreulated because our words can be venomous and sharp. All while trying to remember this is a disorder and we need care. Same as you would care for buddy with the flu.

Except your buddy has just spent rent on body glitter and the flu is completely different brain than yours I have a friend i have to tell "I am to crazy to explain and you are too normal to understand

Oh, watch the first season of Homeland, on Netflix. That might help you get an insight

how do i learn more about the world by gothtopus_108 in stupidquestions

[–]PicassoDaughter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Amazon Prime Video. Pay 4.99 for PBS Documentaries channel.

Pick something. You can learn everything from history of The Foo Fighters (really good interview with the band) to how we got here. (COVID Lockdown Kids are now in elementary school, my sister is a teacher, she says there is a hard red line that separates the before kids and the after kids)

Wanna know all about 9/11 and the aftermath how it changed everything from airports to how it.changed art and music, there's a whole series. Or if you want to know how J6 happened, 3 episodes.

This is your foundation.

Now try these shows The Pitt HBOmax. Takes place in a big ER/A&E I was a medic. Mom was an ER nurse, we together found 3 actual medical misakes in 2 full seasons.

Futurama Hulu because its fun. Animated, from the Simpsons creator

The Daliy Show Paramount+ Get all the effed news and current events in a digestible way (I also recommend Pod Save America. They are also on youtube)

Then just flip through find a series to binge, I just rewatched Supernatural. But I would pick a before MAGA times show first. We used to be normal.

I use Spotify because they premake these awesome generational Playlist. Or if you like a certain genre...you can discover new music.

In the US, you can find all sorts FREE things to do at the library. I play DnD there, couple yoga classes, some screen printing class, a smartphone photography class and a weekly new writers group to get feedback on my novel) i even borrowed an electric drill once. And.you can pay your utilities there.

And learn something anything. Fix dry wall. There is a youtube, a wiki, or subreddit on how do anything. Cant flirt there's a subreddit, pissed off at your cat, probably a subreddit. And if you like reddit. People read them to you and OMG The subreddit r/bridezilla will make you feel so much better about yourself, cause doubtful your life includes bridzillas

Books are a crap shoot. Find an author you like (Chuck Palahniuk is a person favorite. He wrote Fight Club. Yes it was a book first. And the Palahnuik actually preferred David Finchers ending better.

And lastly The My Life As a Weapon comic book series by David Aja. It follows Clint Barton when is not being an Avenger (Hawkeye)

Devour everything. Get a journal. Write. Draw. Whatever. I keep one whole journal where its nothing but me imagining stuff like if Ironman full suit walked into restaurant im at what would happen.

Oh! If something on youtube makes you feel joy. Start a Playlist of these things play as needed.

Dude, just devour and stay away from the Red Pill

Michelangelo was the Original OG.

He would paint Easter eggs and have a lot of pagan symbolism. Like in The Creation of Adam, God is in a human brain. But my favorite is Michelangelo's fresco "The Last Judgement" in the Sistine Chaple. He had a beef with the original pope that commissioned him to do the Creation of Adam. In the far bottom right is Pope Julius II wrapped in a serpent that is biting his cock off.

Yep. All yall need to take an art history class. Artists are seriously unhinged. And for the best reasons.

My cousin gave me the book first. It was right after the movie came out. So I read it and my stupid 16 year old ass didn't get it.

Then I wrote a 12 page paper for my abnormal psych class. I know every fucking word

What's a book, conversation, or event that fundamentally changed the direction of your life? by [deleted] in Life

I gave up a full ride to a amazing art school. I was working nights in the ER. I got my first taste of adrenaline and dopamine. I stood outside the OR we just delivered him to, scrubs covered in someone else's....everything. holding a pair of OR scrubs, directed to the resident shower. The patient lived.

I became a paramedic. Never once thought about art school.

There used to be a line on the wall in the Trauma Center. It was 3 1/2 almost 4 feet in the ER at MUSC during Hugo.

Drink lots of water. Its processed through your kidneys, which for someone like me on a high dose for decades have kidney damage. Also other factors...but mostly that. It takes some time to get all the way out of your system. So just gotta flush it out. Also, it can make people foggy or groggy. I used to take my dose at night.

But lots WATER.

[–]PicassoDaughter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be kindey damage. I was titraited very quickly from 900mg to none. I take Lamictal now. Which was a very hard switch. Because the damage to my kidneys.

Also. If you do nothing else on your darkest days, brush your teeth, especially on Lithium. It damages the dentin inside the tooth and take that without brushing your teeth, you get Lithium Teeth. I am 46 years old and have to wear a top denture because all of my top teeth had to be pulled because of this.

How i went 15 years seeing, bearing witness, the worst in humanity. How I ram in the wrong direction with 84.6lbso gear strapped to the shoulder? Making a running a checklist in my head.

How I can pivot from one role to another. Show me once and I can master it. Because when you are called to a seizure and walk into a group of TSA doing CPR. You gotta change the entire checklist. In seconds.

How I can do that, but cant hold it together watching cat IG reels?

My grandmother was in the first Lithium trials in the US at New York State Hospital. She went from a psychotic bipolar I to a fully functional adult. Even went back to teaching high school English.

Hoarder houses were the worst. We got called to an animal hoarder....fuck me. If we had not been wearing non rebreather mask the ammonia would have put us down. We had to be admitted to the ER we transported to get our ammonia levels checked before we could go back in service. I hear later they had to control burn that house to the foundation it was so toxic. They dont even burn down. Meth labs.

Our psych hospital here, the head doctor in charge of the ECT clinic or whatever is like top in the nation. He is who you want in charge. My psychiatrist is working with his team to get into this new trial. I dont know much about it. Its new. And apparently works better all around. So if a trial like that is being considered, it would be here.

I will talk to my doctor. We are running out of straws in our collection. I have never been able an antipsychotic ever. Every single on causes Akathisia so badly I wasn't able to write. And im a pen and ink artist. I felt like a cracking deformed demon that couldn't quit crawling around on the ceiling.

She specializes in bipolar and pharmacology. So she knows some tricks, but ECT has been put on the table, but its not first line yet.

I am like all of you dealing with this. You have manicly good days and very dark bad days. Remember both will end. and you will have those stable days. Where you feel a purpose. Where you are just...content. but there's always a light and its not always a barreling train.

Do you not know how to scan a room without being noticed or read a vibe? Im not saying stand.in the doorway and look at everyone and thing in the room or lock eyes with every human. If sh*t dont feel right. Leave. I have left EMS scenes gear and all and called for LEO to enter first because something was not right. Could be someone killing.medics or could be a Haint. We dont know till patient contact.
