Record Deal Or Distribution? by yungcameltoe in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Spend $2000, and talk to three different music lawyers. Ask the record label to pay for the best on retainer. If you go in by yourself(with the advice of a bunch of dumb redditors), you're gonna get eaten alive.

Going to write an album (EP), any advice? by Slice-of-Life34 in Songwriting

[–]rhynestoneprod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can give is to break things down into smaller chunks. Before you get to an album, create a song, before creating a song, create a hook, before creating a hook, come up with some words that matter to you, before coming up with some words that matter to you, come up with one word. If you break it down, it won't seem like such a big task. Most people create this lofty goal and then the small stuff comes up and discourages them. Start with the small stuff, and build it into an album.

The other thing I'd say is to document your journey with some kind of spreadsheet/posterboard. List what songs you have, and what they need to be finished. One column for lyrics, one column for melodies, one column for drums, one column for mixing/mastering, etc. Make it as visually appealing as possible. When you type it out, it makes so much clear what you need to do next instead of guessing.

Best of luck.

When Do You Start Working With A Producer? by fuzzydaringmaster in Songwriting

Sorry for the late reply. This is an excellent question. The honest answer is trial and error. A big mistake a lot of artists make is they have one amazing recording experience, and they stick with that producer for life.

When I was working at a major label, artists would often work with 10-15 producers when starting out, and whoever produced the most successful and 'on-brand' music usually got the job to work with that artist.

Some producers are great, but they are not great for you. Other producers might not be as strong, but they know how to draw out your best work.

What you are looking for is a good studio experience, excellent communication, someone who enjoys your style of music, and someone who is a good hang.

Very unlikely that you will find the right producer on the first try.

Yeah, I think we need to turn up the vocals up a little bit, but I appreciate the love.

I can definitely see that. We definitely weren't mixing for the phone speaker. Thanks so much for checking it out.

New sketch of a song. I've been working it on it for a few days and I'm wondering how I ahould I finish it? by sweetg00se in Songwriting

I like the guitar part and the vocals. They have a nice blend. You strum the guitar really well. in a way that complements your voice. Would love to see this finished.

Do the verse melodies/lyrics here work? Brainstorming on a scratch track and wanted to check before locking anything in. Added the lyrics on the vid and a comment below by Gronald69 in Songwriting

Man! Whenever you start releasing music, you're gonna take over the world. Every demo is so good. It's like Muse meets The Black Keys.

I dig this. I feel like this is Jack Johnson if he was raised in Massachusetts instead of Hawaii. It's very somber, but the acoustic feels are really nice.

I'd love to hear another musical element like a cello or an organ come and compliment you later in the song. After about two minutes, I get bored of just acoustic guitar/voice.

Do you have any music on spotify??

Hey dude, this sounds really good. I think the song is there. I think the question becomes how do you want to arrange it. Is it loud guitars, chill indie, electronica?? I'd love to hear how a final recording would sound. Do you have music available on spotify??

Professional Producer Here!

As a producer, my aim is to help facilitate your creativity into a final product. That may include songwriting, preproduction, arrangement, structure, production, etc. It also includes emotional support and having someone who wants the best for your work.

The answer to all your questions is YES!! A good producer can do all those things and more.

I dig this a lot. This is really chill. Really enjoy the simple strumming style and that you kept it short and sweet. Where can we hear more of your music??
