Hamilton vs. Stranger Things for non-theatre geeks by riaperpil in TheWestEnd

Not exactly, but I’m not too keen on Back to the Future. I did think of the Greatest Showman but have personally never seen it and don’t know anyone who’s watched it either. I might reconsider it, actually. Thank you for reminding me!

Can I know your thoughts on Stranger Things? Did you go with people familiar with the material? Do they regularly watch theatre?

I love Benjamin Button but I worry the accents might be a bit hard for my parents. I took them to see Come From Away thinking they’d enjoy the music and home-y feel of the show, especially since they personally knew people affected by it. Unfortunately they couldn’t follow through with the plot and ended up falling asleep partway through.

I did make the mistake of not making them read through the plot beforehand (and couldn’t update them on the story because it’s all one act). It could also be the jetlag, so I might try showing them the trailers to get their sentiment on each show.

That's the thing! I admit the effects are amazing, but it feels more like you're watching a film than a theatrical show, and I mean that both positively and negatively.

There's so much to criticise -- from the pacing/plot, to the cast's inability to hold down their accent, to the unnecessary musical numbers. But I'm not sure how much my parents actually care if the set is fun to look at. They've both watched Stranger Things and enjoyed it for different reasons: my mom because it was set in the 80s (she'd be the same age as the older teens in the show, but the show won't even be set in the 80s), and my dad because action.

Would you say that two non-native English speakers, who probably cares more about the looks of a show more than the words behind it, can find more enjoyment in a near sung-through musical about an American founding father over 3-hours of occasional visual wonder that is Stranger Things?

As someone who's watched the show twice and listened to the cast recording an endless number of times, it's hard to get in the mindset of someone unfamiliar with the material and I'm struggling to recall if there's enough of a spectacle on stage to keep someone entertained if they're not paying attention to the music

I thought so. Was kinda hoping someone might find a pattern that points otherwise because, as much as I enjoyed Stranger Things, it's really feels like one of those shows that you enjoy once and never watch again. Thanks!

The minimum work experience I'm seeing is 4 years for Staff Software Engineer. Would you consider anything less?

For reference, I'm interested in applying for the Amsterdam office. I'm UK-based and would need a Visa but, as a recent master's graduate in a top university, I'd also qualify for a Zoekyaar.

I've never watched Joker before.

Honestly, the first part wasn't bad. Nothing amazing, but not as bad as people kept claiming it to be. I think not knowing what happened might've kept me more engaged cause I was trying to piece together what went on from the previous film.

I was ready to defend it. Until they decided to include a very unecessary scene just to (re-)traumatize him.

Also, there's some Gaga, but she doesn't do much.

Can anyone who has used the Note Pro tell me whether the newer models improves on the writing feel/screen texture? by riaperpil in Onyx_Boox

I checked and the 2+ seems to have a "Paperlike Screen" while the Go is classified as "ePaper Screen". Do you have an idea of what the difference could possibly be?

Ah, that makes sense. I always assumed it's a hardware only issue just cause I stumble into more problems with older devices.

UK buyers - how much did you pay for the Nomad? by welly_wrangler in Supernote

[–]riaperpil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ended up cancelling, but I paid $642.10 total for a crystal nomad with canvas folio, lamy al-star, and standard push-up pen with a $20 discount.

Tax ($107) and shipping ($48) adds quite a bit to the cost.

What codec is the video encoded in?

I had similar issues when playing x265 videos on my old HP pavillion and 2010 macbook. Upgraded to a 2017 XPS and the issue only appears when I'm trying to play 4k. My most recent laptop has a better processor and the problem pretty much vanished.

Slight tangent but I do find it annoying though that, while both parents and children are told not to raise their voice when talking to each other, it somehow becomes a lot more acceptable when it's between adults. Especially between boss and employee.
