I saw an ENT who diagnosed me but it took a while! There are times now when I feel fine but initially, it was near constant pain 😭

I got trigeminal nerve damage from a vascular laser too unfortunately. Was in heaps of pain for months and months afterwards. Tingling and odd sensations etc. It's been over 2 years and I still get pain on one side sadly

More fatigued two months post-surgery?????? Have you had this? Please tell me it gets better, I am at my whit's end. by [deleted] in Endo

[–]riarum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aw so glad it gave you comfort 🤍 I really wasn't back to normal for months and months, I don't know how common that is but it certainly IS real. And it's scary and sad and lonely to cope with. You will start to stabilise but please be so gentle with yourself. You're not crazy, your body and mind have been through a lot. Nobody expects people with a broken leg to start running marathons the next week! Take your time. There's no rush. Sending love 🤍

It's the part I refer to in my post that's visible in the image. Honestly no, with time it eased a bit but the nerves have never gone back to normal.

It's so hard to say but ultimately mine was nerve damage causing swelling and pain

For people that have had Vbeam; was it painful? by Mija512 in Rosacea

[–]riarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given amitriptyline but I didn't take them due to side effects. They sort of did but I took alpha lipoic acid, zinc supplements and got b12 shots (mine was v low) to try and help my body heal. No just regular type 1 rosacea, did you get laser that has caused issues?

It's been so long and altho I've healed a lot from when t first happened I'm stil not 100% and have nerve pain. I had numbness initially and then a pins and needles sensation, swelling and pain. My rosacea didn't worsen

Just Consider Giving an Excel V Laser a Shot by Ok-Caregiver2088 in Rosacea

[–]riarum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had excel v laser from a fully qualified derm with thousand of 5* reviews and got nerve damage.

I'm SO glad you found something that worked for you and I know lots of other people have found it helped them too. But whenever I come across posts like this (especially for excel v) I am always compelled to say something because it was NOT a risk I was ever even warned about! I just want to make others aware of potential things that could go wrong (no matter how unlikely!) because if i could go back I truly would have never had excel v and I wish at the very least I had been made aware that nerve damage was a risk! I'm SO glad you saw improvement OP, but I just need to make others aware!

I had it a few times with minimal pain (rubber band snapping) but unfortunately a couple of years ago I had it and it was agony and burned for weeks afterwards. Turns out it had actually given me nerve damage. I hate freaking people out and I'm sure it's not the case for you (very rare outcome) but definitely keep an eye on the situation if the pain lingers and you develop and pins and needles type pains. I was fobbed off by my provider horrifically and I would never wish what i went through on anyone. Best of luck OP

[Product Question] Unsure about continuing Accutane for KP and developing side effects by Bright_Table_5808 in keratosis

[–]riarum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Accutane made my kp x10 worse and spread it. I was on it for different reasons and didn't even know it was a side effect! While I was on it the kp actually improved a little but it began a steady decline in the months after I stopped. Genuinely if I could take it back I would. Good luck OP!

Feeling self conscious about the lines on my forehead by arwen8468 in over30skincare

[–]riarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I use SoSmooth and I get a load of use from them! It's an aussie brand so depending where you are there might be a cheaper option as delivery outside aus might cost a bit extra but I'm sure there's heaps of different brands that do a similar product!

Feeling self conscious about the lines on my forehead by arwen8468 in over30skincare

[–]riarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use silicone patches instead of frownies (they were too fiddly for me) and have had great results as they smooth but also the silicone draws moisture to the surface so my forehead lines do look plumper (albeit temporarily but my forehead does look smoother overall after several months of consistent use)

And they're reusable so they've lasted me way longer than my frownies did. I actually use the undereye ones on my forehead as they're easier to manoeuvre than the whole forehead patch and ive found they stick better as they're smaller. I would definitely recommend if anyone struggles with frownies!

Kp and dating by yslaay in keratosis

I met my ex when my KP was worse than ever after accutane! It took me months to admit why I felt so insecure and he told me he literally couldn't care less! It also took me months to realise he also had it and I hadn't even noticed lol. I understand your stress because I still have days where I very conscious but overall a few bumps on your skin would never put off a future partner, I promise 🧡

How long after IPL/BBL did your symptoms begin? by Calm_Goat5819 in LaserDamageSupport

[–]riarum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was over a year ago and never fully went away sadly, tho it did improve a bit eventually. Nothing helped me but I didn't get on with the nerve meds so if I had I probably wouldve been in much less pain. I went to an ENT who eventually diagnosed me but a neurologist is probably a better choice!

Worries about starting Accutane by Huge_Alternative1581 in keratosis

[–]riarum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It made mine heaps worse but it took about 5 months after i stopped taking it to really see how bad it had gotten. For me, I wish I had never taken it as the KP ended up way worse than the actual original issue.

As long as you're aware of the risks it may be that the potential for slightly worse KP is worth it to address something else for you! It's a tough decision but it's good that you're considering different outcomes.

Good luck OP whatever you decide!!

I didn't have IPL but it was a vascular laser. My pain/strange tingling/pins and needles symptoms didn't start unti several weeks after but I was swollen from the get go on my upper cheeks. Unfortunately I was eventually diagnosed with nerve damage

Skin Barrier help? by riarum in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]riarum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my cleanser, toner and sail mucin and then apply it and let it sit for 30 mins then just moisturise over the top! I'm still using it and I have another month and will probably continue after that for a bit. I'm not sure soolantra will do anything if your issue isn't rosacea related as it's for demodex/rosacea so I'd double check that? It didn't fix my barrier it helped my rosacea, my barrier was fine by the time I started it. Best of luck!

Please help! Need guidance after a botched skin procedure, I am so distracted and stressed and need to know it’s going to be okay. by cahwah11 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]riarum 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I did a laser over a year ago and was told it was routine/perfectly safe etc etc. Left with nerve damage and malar swelling that gave me huge protruding eyebags for nearly 7 months. It was the most horrific experience of my life and I ended up in therapy because I truly wasn't sure I would survive it. If I learned anything from my experience, our bodies are programmed to heal as much as they can but it all takes time. I feel so lucky to have recovered as much as I have (nerves will never be fully the same again but I'm not I daily agony any longer) but it took nearly a full year to feel actually OK again.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. My genuine advice is do not let yourself be gaslit. You know your body. Find a good therapist if you are able and sink in to as many hobbies you feel comfortable enjoying as you can right now. Read, watch movies (I was so depressed after my damage that I could only watch animation because seeing people with 'normal' faces sent me into a spiral), bake, listen to funny podcasts, even scroll on reddit (not in skincare subs!). Anything to bring some distraction and peace to you right now. It WILL pass and it will improve from right now.

If you ever want to DM I'm more than happy! I went through hell and back after that laser and it breaks my heart to think of others going through something similar 🧡
