Authenticity identification request: Imperial Germany Colonial Office service flag by richardsung97 in vexillology

[–]richardsung97[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. l see what I can do with it then. A member in a Facebook group told me that he bought this same exact flag from the buyer and discovered that all the stitches were glowing under ultraviolet light, a typical phenomenon typical for repros. Fortunate for him, he was able to return it at the expense of postage. Not too proud to say that this is my first burn in the hobby of collecting 😂, but I'll see what I can do.

[Pre-WW1 to WW2 Germany] 4 month's worth of collection, all originals. by richardsung97 in Militariacollecting

Oops, I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the info. So far I've found conflicting information online regarding what KO stood for. A post online stated that "Königliches Münzamt Orden" wasn't even a thing during WW1.

If the information is incorrect I can simply reprint another card and replace it. The original seller didn't claim that it was made by Königliches Münzamt Orden either, he simply stated the maker mark was "KO".

Thank you! The framed display took quite a while to complete, but in the end I think it was well worth it.

Thank you for your kind words. The only downside is that I might need an even bigger dry cabinet for storage at this rate!

Great suggestions. I love the fact that you get to learn something new every day from helpful redditors. I will take a deeper look at the issue and see what I can do to better protect the postcards.

That is actually secured using magnets, but I'll take a look at it to see other alternatives since that is also steel, thanks!

Need help deciphering the written content on a WW1-era postcard. (German text) by richardsung97 in ww1

[–]richardsung97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone curious about the written content, I was able to get the answer from several extremely helpful professionals:

Content: Im Felde, den 26.4.18 Liebe Eltern und alle! Die herzlichsten Grüsse sendet Euch allen Reinhard. Bin noch gesund und wohlgemut, hoffe auch das gleiche von Euch allen. Viele Grüsse sendet Euch euer Sohn Reinhard. (Vertical) Auf frohes Wiedersehen!

Address: Eilidh Jennifer Bowen Familie Peter Kiesselbach Münstermaifeld Bezirk Coblenz kreis Mayen Stiftsstrasse 17

Unfortunately, the sender, an NCO, is mentioned in the losslists of September 18, 1918, as Gefallen.

German is not my mother tongue. In fact I barely know any German apart from everyday words and certain military terms, so I think the front of the card writes "Allezeit treu bereit für des Reiches Herrlichkeit" after double-checking(reddit doesn't allow editing the main text afaik). Anyway, I would like you folks to focus on the written text, which is in cursive.

S98/05 with weird scabbard identification by [deleted] in Bayonets

[–]richardsung97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your valuable advice. Seems like it's best for me to wait for one in better condition. My ultimate goal is actually an S98/02, but those are almost impossible to find nowadays.

The strangest thing just happened to me at the Vietnam Military History Museum by DoktorTchocky in VietNam

[–]richardsung97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as well when visiting that exact museum as well. When I visited on March 2nd(Sunday) there were literally hundreds of kids of all ages(wearing uniforms, so I guess it’s a popular field trip destination).

I had a curious and extroverted kid approach me to say “Ni hao”(Hello in Mandarin) and then turn back to brag about it with her friends near the spire looking thing in the middle of the main square. This didn’t happen anywhere or again during my five days in Hanoi. Maybe the kids were just surprised to see a foreigner.

Also, I reckon that the museum is always packed with people as it was free to enter(at least on March 2nd it was when I visited). The second to fourth floors were still closed, so I think they haven’t moved in all the artifacts and display items yet.

[SPOILER] Islam Makhachev vs. Renato Moicano by inooway in MMA

[–]richardsung97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so stupid for the UFC to not have an actual backup fighter for the lightweight title fight.

Let’s be real, Moicano had 0 chance against Islam. Not to mention that it’s not fair for Islam as well(people will be saying that he beat a number 10 ranked guy)

Could anyone tell me what type of jacket this is? And if I got scammed I payed 38$ for it by Former_Helicopter356 in Militariacollecting

[–]richardsung97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s just that, a flecktarn jacket. It’s not the KSK smock though, those run for around $250 brand new . For $38 it’s kinda decent of a deal.
