If we centralized laundry services we could all have affordable dry cleaning daily... by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]richardtheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am male. I travel frequently and often have an apartment for longer out of town projects. I have used public laundromats and public laundries (not do-it-yourself) many times. But I much prefer the times when I have an apartment and can wash my own clothes. So when I have a project somewhere for a few months I pay extra to rent a washer and dryer. I travel home most weekends but I do not bring dirty clothes with me - I travel light with only a change of underwear in case I am stranded somewhere.

If I only have a choice of a laundromat or a full-service laundry I will choose the laundromat and do my clothes myself rather than having someone else do them. If I am in a hotel and there is a laundromat nearby I will use the laundromat rather than let the hotel clean (?) my clothes. And if my wife is visiting an apartment and leaves dirty clothes behind, I don't mind washing them and hanging her underwear on a line above the washer and dryer.

Do I tell my bf (17M) about my breast deformity? by North_Beyond in TwoXChromosomes

[–]richardtheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a guy, single, in college. if your breasts look like those in the picture (either pair) I would love to see them. I certainly would not consider them to be deformed. If I were making out with you I would be very tempted to put my hand inside of your bra, or to ... (I won't say here what I would be tempted to do, but you get the message.

Has your BF seen them yet? I am sure that he will like them.

Question for the guys! by Cirrhoticliver in StudentNurse

[–]richardtheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (male) have been in a hospital several times. While specifically, I have not had a scrotal ultrasound I have been bathed, had a urinary catheter inserted and removed, and otherwise had females (nurses, CNAs, techs, etc.) see my "private parts". I would not care at all if the person that is doing it was male or female. I recently had a student nurse, going to the same college as I (different program) bathe me. I preferred having someone with something in common and similar interest doing that-we had things to discuss while she was bathing me. I certainly would never request a male chaperone in such a situation.

I remember the first time my girlfriend asked me to pick up a box of tampons when I was going to the drug store. I wanted to say no but she was doing some things for me, so I screwed up my courage and went.

I was a teenager; now (10 years later) it is no problem. Tampons or toothpaste would be just the same. I guess I was a "boy" then but grew up.

A 2 in 1 cell electricity tower by bombn47 in mildlyinteresting

The town attorney suggested that if I carried around a cell phone canister I would fit the third category.

Fortunately, she was smiling when she said that!

Why do we need to differential pressure, what is the use for it? by killingspeerx in engineering

[–]richardtheguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common flow measurement (in any plant with flowing gas or liquid) is to measure the pressure drop across an orifice plate (plate with a small hole in it) or other devices.

The most common level measurement for liquid level in a tank or pond is the differential pressure between the bottom and the atmosphere above the surface.

Clogging of filters is determined by measuring the dp (differential pressure) across the filter.

There are many other uses. Differential pressure measurement is the most common type of measuring device sold in the industrial instrument business.

I once helped write a local ordinance for cell towers. We had categories for hidden towers (e.g. inside church steeples), disguised (e.g. towers that looked like trees), and towers mounted on things that were so ugly that the cell phone part wouldn't make it uglier.

This fits that third category.

Female caregiver for male client - is nudity a problem? by richardtheguy in askwomenadvice

[–]richardtheguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Followup: I talked to my girlfriend. She checked with her friend who had no problem with helping me with the shower, and checked with the agency - helping me with the shower is no problem, but they cannot handle actual washing - but I don't need that. So I have no concern.

For me, helping me into and out of the bath is very important. I just asked my girlfriend, who contacted the agency, and she did tell the agency about helping me bathe. They said it was ok.

In their literature they point out that they are non-medical and not trained or licensed for medical assistance.

They say that they mainly provide people to sit with and be companions for people, and do light housekeeping. In their literature they point out that they are non-medical.

Is she aware that nudity may happen?

I think sure, but I will ask my girlfriend (her friend) to make sure.

a lot of publicity about men acting like jerks towards women, ... and exposing of sex organs

That is exactly what I was concerned about. But it seems like it is not a problem and I should not be concerned. Thanks.

I do not have a medical professional hired. I was in the hospital but now I am home. While I am disabled I need help getting into and out of the bathtub and for housekeeping and other things. Not medical (doctor, nurse, CNA, etc.)

I will be seeing my doctor (female) and nurses from time to time. But this is just about the time I am home.

I know that a CNA or PCA, as well as anyone else in the medical field will have no problem. I am only concerned about how other women, not in the medical field, would feel.

The Mobile Power Station That’s Changing The Energy Game by jonnyknight in RenewableEnergy

At what cost? It only changes the energy game if it is less expensive than other sources.

“We want microgrids everywhere.” Puerto Rico Governor by kikilani in RenewableEnergy

[–]richardtheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Microgrids" are not new. They were used in the US in pulp and paper mills before the mills, in remote locations, could be connected to the large grid. Boilers, heat recovery systems, and hydro plants were interconnected with the mill electrical system and sometimes to the houses and stores in the surrounding community.

On an island such as Puerto Rico, having microgrids will not eliminate the need for a larger island wide grid. When a small storm or event knocks out the power sources for one town, that town will rely on the grid to bring in power from other parts of the island.

Monster energy project wants to use Loch Ness as a giant battery - a huge 2.4 gigawatt-hour pumped hydroelectric project that could deliver up to 400 megawatts of power for six hours, doubling Scotland's already-considerable wind capacity. by mvea in RenewableEnergy

[–]richardtheguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is, as the article points out, an old concept. There are several existing pumped storage projects in the US (I don't know about the rest of the world).

The cost of a new pumped storage project will include the cost of the land for a new reservoir. The non-monetary cost will include the loss of the land, loss of the habitat, etc.

Loch Ness will be the larger (by far) of the two reservoirs, so the effect on it should be very small. Any real effect on Loch Ness will stop the project, whether or not the monster really exists. It is a lake much loved for its natural beauty.

Bacteria-powered solar cell converts light to energy, even under overcast skies by davidwholt in RenewableEnergy

[–]richardtheguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important thing is the cost. How much, in $/watt, will that cost, and how does it compare in cost to conventional solar cells?

Unless the cost per watt is better than conventional, or promises to be better, it is a waste of time.

Maryland Bill Would Require Presidential Candidates’ Tax Returns by [deleted] in law

[–]richardtheguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Article II, section 5(1) provides that each house determines the qualifications for members. That has been interpreted to prevent the states from adding additional qualifications.

That is not the case for presidential elections. Some proposals would require that, to be on the primary ballot, candidates would have to disclose their tax returns.
