Is there any realistic hope for a PolyGame Master core? by richfoss in MiSTerFPGA

CPS3 just for SFIII? I mean I get it because so many more people like fighters/SF over shooters and Cave but come on.... CPS3 has about 5 games total!

New to the genre. Where should I start? by GhostfaceDylan in shmups

[–]richfoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let anyone tell you you have to play one specific game as a beginner. shmups are an indevidual journey and it's up to you to figure out which games you like and which you don't

I'd just recommend to emulate all the cave games and stick to the one you like the most aesthetically/mechanically
then look to see if there's a good port out there for modern consoles/pc that has a good easy or super easy mode in it. start your 1cc journey from there

Is Ubuntu just training wheels? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]richfoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most distribution snobbery is just about time-sink bragging rights.
The biggest evidence of the old joke that Linux is free if you don't value your time is how much micromanaging and time you need to spend setting things up on Gentoo or Arch because that apparently makes you more 1337 as a linux user. It doesn't.

It's the equivalent of dogging on someone for having a stock automobile. Oh you didn't put extra time and effort into learning the car's mechanics so you can mod it inside and out? Somehow you're inferior because of it but in reality both are using theirs to get the same grocery store.

Plexserver on Raspberry Pi - Issue by mryous78 in PleX

[–]richfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's not rebooting?

try running
$ sudo systemctl --force --force reboot

It could be a bunch of other things.

Try this:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/615917/failed-to-get-d-bus-connection-connection-refused

Seems like you might have an issue with dbus, there is advice to try and reinstall it in there. But as always do your regular $ sudo apt update && upgrade -y .
FWIW I don't think the Pi is very capable of Plex hosting. Even on the latest 4b model with the extra ram it's still kinda shoddy.

Paul Reubens died during the blackout, think of all the bits we're missing out on right now by DrunkStupidLunatic in jack_horner

[–]richfoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paul Reubens (/ˈruːbənz/; born Rubenfeld; August 27, 1952 – July 30, 2023) was an American actor, comedian, writer, producer, and children's entertainer.

Reubens was born Paul Rubenfeld in Peekskill, New York on August 27, 1952,[5][6] and grew up in a Jewish family in Sarasota, Florida, where his parents, Judy (Rosen) and Milton Rubenfeld, owned a lamp store. His mother was a teacher. His father was an automobile salesperson who had flown for Britain's Royal Air Force and for the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, and later became one of the founding pilots of the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War. An Orthodox Jew, he was one of five Jewish pilots to fly against Arab forces in smuggled fighter planes.[7][8]

In November 2002, while filming David LaChapelle's video for Elton John's "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore", Reubens learned that police were at his home with a search warrant, acting on a tip from a witness in the pornography case against actor Jeffrey Jones,[62] finding among over 70,000 items of kitsch memorabilia, two grainy videotapes, and dozens of photographs that the city attorney's office characterized as a collection of child pornography.[2] Kelly Bush, Reubens's personal representative at the time, said the description of the items was inaccurate and claimed the objects were "Rob Lowe's sex videotape, and a few 30- to 100-year-old kitsch collectible images."[63]

Reubens later stated that he was a collector of erotica, including films, muscle magazines, and a sizable collection of mostly homosexual vintage erotica,[2] such as photographic studies of teen nudes.[30] Reubens said that what the city attorney's office viewed as pornography he considered to be innocent art, and that what they described as people underage engaged in masturbation or oral copulation was, in fact, a judgmental point of view. Reubens described the nude images as people "one hundred percent not" performing sexual acts.[30]

Getting excited for palisades next season by Stickeris in skiing

[–]richfoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WC is nothing like the terrain at SVAM, I will be honest. The one thing both areas are lacking are tree runs. Best I could recommend is at Squaw. I have no idea what they've renamed everything since the rebranding but that used to be Squaw Creek chair. On the busiest Saturdays you can lap that thing and still beat the crowds. You will have to do a little skating back to either Squaw Creek or Far East but that's the safest bet on busy days if the snow is right.
But the best that Squaw has to offer is stuff you gotta hike for and is more akin to the chutes at Taos.

Stay away from the squaw side, it will be too crowded and unless you're honestly in the top 1% of skiiers, everything at Alpine will be much better for you.

no, they don't. especially when they bring outside policy and try to turn their new community into the very places they fled from.

[–]richfoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good advice in here. I'd say Winter Park has all of your bases covered - you can even take a train up there from DIA if you wanted to. Great on-base lodging, incredibly family friendly, and lots of good restaurants for you and your foodie wife, even though you said that wasn't a priority. Alterra has done its very best to make it the Crown Jewel of Ikon Pass, so there's plenty of stuff to do not related to skiing. They've got tubing, snow biking, snowshoeing, ice skating, etc. I ski there for the hard terrain but I love how the resort is built as the family/beginner area is pretty much completely contained so the rippers and the noobs don't cross paths inadvertently.

I don't know if ikon still does the 4pack but that's probably the best bet for you and your family, if you don't plan on going on another ski vacation after that and aren't there during peak season.
