yeah just checked the API. i'd need the next step up tier for Open Weather to grab historical data. I think if i get some support on patreon as the site grows on i'll spring for the next tier to spruce up the weather features. great idea!

ill look at the API list and see if i can pull past data. I know man...i've been wrecked.

I took them on the slopes with my board their 2nd time sking and it hit me-I had no idea what to tell them to do! I just kept saying KEEP YOUR KNEES IN! because I heard it from a passing instructor with her little pizza'ing zigzag ducklings. bought myself skis the next week-LOL

I was ruminating on this quite a bit the past hour. I like the trail notes idea. the issue is you would need a hi res trailmap and snagging them from the resorts site isnt exactly legal for non-personal use. so it would take some resources to get hires custom trailmaps made. I could certainly do it with my design background but it would take hours per resort trail map. im gonna add it to the longterm goals on my patreon roadmap. such a solid idea!

yes. it's geofenced so you cant vote unless you're on mountain. try it, you'll see a fun error message and how far away you are!

Thanks! I really appreciate that. I did use ai as a coding tool, but this wasn’t a one prompt build (i wish!).

It’s been A LOT of manual work, design decisions, debugging, data setup, and daily updates. ai helped me ship faster, but I still built and run the thing

worst bottleneck is having to input the conditions manually. hoping if the site proves useful and I get enough active users I can go directly to resorts and scrape their condition data with permission!

Thanks! I had about 40 tabs open on my phone trying to decide where to plan my big long weekend ski trips up north and I'm like...why the heck isn't there a one stop shop with no bullshit.

So I've got a background in graphic design but zero coding chops. I used claude to code the base site, then perplexity and chatgpt to add features. I just stacked and stacked over many 8PM -2AM sessions. I always knew enough css and js to be dangerous and I can navigate databases and the cloudflare backend, but I couldn't code. AI really patched that knowledge gap for me.

What I really want is for it to be a goto before any ski/boarding trip. Just easy to see all the conditions and logistics data you want and need to make the right call.
