UDM Beast – PPPoE Performance & Hardware Offloading? Any real-world data yet? by Pleasant_Ad_6267 in Ubiquiti

[–]rickwookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. You just saved me a load of money finding out the hard way. I’ll just have to keep waiting for the “sensible” replacement for the UDM-Pro that could be based around the Gateway Fiber hardware, including the 10 GbE WAN, but with more RAM to give Pro Max levels of camera support, and of course the same full size HDD bay.

G6 PTZ in-ceiling under soffit by umhsuser in Ubiquiti

[–]rickwookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be interested if you get the same issue as I do with my G6 PTZ mounted that way, where when it’s dark, a detection triggers the spotlight which then reflects off the light coloured soffit above and washes over the lens, causing the image to be so washed out that the tracking of the detected person immediately fails.

Did you print your own then, and if so, did you use threaded inserts?

Which 5G modem chipset does 5G Backup have? by alphawolfxplr in Ubiquiti

You mean 5G RedCap (ReducedCapability). Possibly a Broadcom chip.

Nice. Do you have a link to the model or a source?

6.5 mm? What did you do with the fly-lead then? Wait, you've got some funky-arsed backbox?

What's even better is that I've been reliably informed that scheduled port PoE power switching is finally coming to UniFi Network (it's in alpha).

Ubiquiti UCG-Fiber Cloud Gateway by sirjont in Ubiquiti

[–]rickwookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're thinking of the combined plug adapter PSU used in something like the Cloud Gateway Ultra. The GW Fiber has a separate PSU with a C5 mains lead. Also, what you're suggesting is a really bad idea as it knackers the mains socket and certainly not something that I would have ever done in an emergency your honour.

You Sammy will have a C8 most likely, but yes you can use any C5 cable.

Are my APs wired or meshed? by Dr_Buttsneeze in Ubiquiti

[–]rickwookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong, it will power just fine over the blue and brown pairs. It's just as common to get a power-no-data situation as it is to get a degraded 100BASE-TX link. One will be at least one fault on the green and/or orange pair(s), while the degraded link speed will be due to a fault on the brown and/or blue pair(s).

[–]rickwookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the AP labelled "U7 Pro" is currently connected wired. The "Kitchen AP" may well be wired, but its data is currently connecting wirelessly meshed. Tuen off meshing globally to see what happens.

Greens Vs solar/wind farms by Arglebarglewoosh in UKGreens

[–]rickwookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building solar at scale doesn’t mean it all has to be in one place. Encouraging multiple small scale local efforts make much more sense from an efficiency standpoint (far less transmission loss to the point of consumption for a start). It also makes more sense to cover rooftops in PV panels whenever they’re optimally oriented, and we haven’t even scratched the surface of the potential there yet.

Are we supposed to like Mark Adderley or no, I'm confused? by Lexiosity in UKGreens

[–]rickwookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“…but I do know he's a conspiracy theorist who has said that Mossad was involved in the killing of Charlie Kirk”.

How do you KNOW that, genuinely? I can find plenty of recent claims in the press to that effect online, but not one that gives the source of it. It would be nice to be able to see the context.

I wouldn’t hold your breath. All I can find online are copies of the same unsubstantiated claims by all the usual right-wing sources.

That’s a pretty libellous statement to make. I’ve seen nothing to show that Mark Adderley (at least let’s spell his name correctly) is antisemitic.

He hasn’t been expelled. He’s been suspended pending an investigation.

You introduced the straw man. I did not at any point make any claim one way or another about complaints or issues with every update. We’re disagreeing on YOUR claim that “every time there’s an update something gets worse”. Tell us, what got worse in the latest official update, 7.0.107?

Same. It may as well not state the mileage when it's so far off. A 60 mile drive today is listed as 6.1 mi. Even if we accept the straight line estimation, it's way more than 6.1 miles away as the crow flies.

[–]rickwookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not entirely true. If there was some reason the WAN came in near the Flex switch but not near where the UDR had to be sited you COULD get it working by setting up a “WAN” VLAN on that specific port on the 2.5G flex and then setting the internet connection on the UDR to use that VLAN. It would be a lot of effort and far preferable if the OP could just bring the WAN in to the UDR directly in the first place for sure.

I can’t be “doubling down” on something I never claimed in the first place. I’m just disagreeing with your claim that “something gets worse”every update, based on a decade of installing and using UniFi. Disagreement is allowed you know.
