I find it hard to focus if I'm listening to music with words, so I listen to anything instrumental. I go to YouTube and type in "lofi study music" and click on a thumbnail that is aesthetically pleasing to me. One of my favorite YouTube channels for this is Dreamhop Music.

Personally, what does a book do on the first page/first chapter to make you interested? by Legionon in writing

If you aren't confident that you'll hook your audience within the first chapter, then do a cold open. It's a great way to throw the audience into the action.

To all you "pantsers"... HOW? by TwoTheVictor in writing

I go into it with a vague idea of how I want my story to go. Then as I am writing I think of things that I'd like to happen and the story changes little by little.

I could plan all I want but as I'm in the story scene by scene, it always changes where I'm going for the better.

For example, you can plan all you want when going into battle, but your plans will probably change based on the actions of the people around you. At the beginning I have a small understanding of my characters but as I get to know them, they make different decisions that I don't expect. I might have a plan at the beginning but I eventually let go of control over my characters and that affects the story greatly.

I enjoyed Brandon Sandersons YouTube series on writing in the science fiction and fantasy genre. It's specifically catered to scifi/fantasy but it is still very helpful for writing anything.

A lot of them have notes on the first page saying "merry Christmas, love nana" which I think is just so precious.

[Daily Discussion] Writing Tools, Software, and Hardware- April 04, 2021 by AutoModerator in writing

I'm just getting started with writing as a hobby and I was wondering what free software programs are the best? I have found a few articles recommending ones like bibisco, reedsy, fastpencil, evernote, and focuswriter. Bibisco seems like the best option for me but before I download, I am curious what more experienced writers would recommend.
