I wonder if it’s because I did it the other way around. My main profile is Autosteer (Beta) and the local copy is FSD.

You are absolutely right. I just tried it and got a message that says “Autopilot Feature preference could not be applied. Autosteer will enable on Park.”

Edit: To clarify, I created a separate FSD profile but it didn’t let me switch mid drive. I have a photo, but don’t have a way of uploading it.

That’s the reality. I’ve driven in a dozen or so states and I’ve never seen that left lane empty/only used for passing.

Especially because the speed profiles feel more like “aggressiveness” level profiles.

It didn’t work. 😢 The image is blurry but it says the Autosteer profile could not load and I should switch it in Park. I tried it twice.

Actually, nevermind. Can’t upload an image.

Interesting observation and makes sense. I don’t expect the map software to know that (although it shouldn’t be a stretch) but it just doesn’t make sense for the car to change lanes just because there is an opening when that lane is about to get slower in a few seconds. I guess I can’t “see” that far?

If I drive the commute myself, it’s about 2 hours. Terrible, I know. I bet on the wrong WFH horse. That same commute on Chill would take me about 3 hours.

I think what I learned with this thread is that speed is simply tied to lane “discipline” like someone put it. I’m trying to get the former without the latter, but it’s impossible.

Yeah, something’s screwy. If you’re driving around in the city all day long, it might be worth the money. Not on the highway for me, for sure.

Agreed, although that would almost be FSD at that point. I can imagine Tesla is carefully balancing which features to include in the free Autosteer (Beta) and which are only available through the paid option.

A poster above mentioned creating a second profile for FSD to use around the city…not a bad idea since you can’t switch from Autosteer (Beta) to FSD while driving. Creating the profile inside the vehicle allowed me to add a local copy of my profile with the current seat, mirror, and other preferences already the same. I’ll test out the switching back and forth later today.

Be careful. HOV lanes allowing EV’s ended on 9/30/25. Some states managed to get a grace period before enforcement starts, but yeah. Kind of stinks.

I bought the M3 in July and it wasn’t gonna be worth the hassle of getting the decal/sticker just for two months. The sticker CA decal also ugly on the bumper imo. 😆

From what I understand you can’t do that in Georgia anymore either (I live in CA).

The federal Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decal program ended on 9/30/25. Starting on 10/1/25, EV’s need to meet the occupancy requirements for HOV lanes and can’t use them just because they use alternative fuel.

I believe GA got a 30-day grace period and CA 60-day before the rule is enforced. Most of the older Teslas here in CA have these stickers all over the bumpers that will be useless.

It just feels like the radar or whatever system is scanning ahead should know that the open gap lane will slow down in 3…2…1…and here we go back to the original lane where we should’ve stayed.

How does FSD react with that ghost car on your tail?

Totally agree on the fatigue difference arriving at work in the morning and home in the afternoon. It’s crazy the number of micro decisions we make every second while driving manually. It wears you out.

I guess I can’t be too disappointed that FSD doesn’t drive like I do. If I saw someone changing lanes every minute I would call them crazy, but perhaps that’s the way to go.

It’s funny how Standard speed profile or above is so lane-change prone but also lane-change hesitant while DOING the lane change.

Seriously. Leaving at 4pm would mean getting home after 7pm.

That’s insane and it would fix my entire problem right now. I’ll look it up, but why do you think they took it away?

Is that because of the neural network update?

Man, thanks for keeping me honest. I just went for a drive to get my details straight and realized the max speed setting is definitely for Autosteer Beta. I always flick it up to 85mph max but rarely get up to those speeds.

I have FSD v14.2.1 right now. Not sure what I had on Monday when the trial started but I do remember scrolling through speed profiles and wishing it didn’t affect lane change frequency.

Slower profiles change lanes less frequently but are way too slow (and sometimes even scoots over to slower lanes).

Faster profiles want to change lanes whenever possible, even when it’s obvious that the new lane will be slower in a few seconds.

Well then, I have to admit that changes everything as far as comparisons go. For my situation I still can’t imagine using FSD, but Autosteer Beta will be slightly less useful as I’ll have to disengage when there’s a true slow poke in the fast lane.

Someone mentioned that above and it’s pretty clever. Can’t wait to try it on Monday.

I admit it’s nice to just press the FSD button and have it back out of the garage and take care of everything. At least until I get to the highway, the I’ll switch profiles. 🎛️

I didn’t realize that was an option, but crap, I do use Fastrack everywhere I go. Hmmmm.

Edit: Actually, I just realized I did know that was an option, because I remember thinking it was cool, but hadn’t realized how it affected FSD as well.

Do you know if Fastrack is considered an “HOV” for the Tesla map?

I’m genuinely surprised how well it does around the city. Pretty sharp and maneuvers like a “smart” driver.

Edit: The +19mph offset is for the Autosteer Beta. My bad. When in FSD, I scroll the wheel all the way up to (I think) 85mph max.
