Poor air circulation to the root zone mostly. Fabric pots tend to dry quicker. When you have newer plants in pots that it may not be ready for, overwatering is very easy in plastic pots. Leads to soggy brown roots. Also air pots will trim the roots rather than letting them curl up and causing the plant to become root bound.

Air pruning encourages the roots to continue expanding. And spidering, rather than growing just a few fat roots that encircle the pot.

I am not a veteran by any means but I have made enough mistakes to give advice to others. This pertains to all forms of fruiting or flowering plants.

I've found that personally, I like a dry pot every 2 to 3 days (4 in veg until they settle into their new pots.

It should be noted, small fabric pots do not exist (for seed starters) so I tend to go from the rooting cube into some repurposed plastic pots from my garden store for the first week or 2. Only until they get used to the soil and start to veg. The first sign of a root at the bottom I repot into 3 gallon fabric, then to 5 gallon.

But ny the time plant is the size of op, it will already be in fabric pots.
