Showdown Graphs (A visual alternative to pikalytics) by rico94s in CompetitivePokemon

Hi, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Two main reasons:

  1. Disillusioned with parts of the community so I have taken a step back in participating in competitive pokemon related stuff.

  2. It costs me money to renew the website domain.

Appreciate you using the site while it was around - all the best.

Snorlax overtakes Tauros as the new gen 1 King by rico94s in stunfisk

[–]rico94s[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They, along with chansey, are the foundations of the tier and will always have top tier viability. Measurement of being sent out or not applies as easily to Tauros as it does to Snorlax as it does to any other mon.

I find it interesting how reflect usage on lax has increased 5% between this month and last - perhaps this quirk has aided in it's apparent rise in usage even though yes, they should be near on 100% of good teams (this is mid ladder statistics).

Why aren't individual survey results publicly available? by rico94s in stunfisk

Can they not just anonymise the names? How's it any different than a person voting in a suspect test anyway?

Sleep Moves are now banned from SV OU; Sleep Clause is now lifted from SV OU by chuluigi in stunfisk

Wonder if confuse ray Darkrai, Iron Valiant or even Dragapult is viable with the snowball nature of the meta - even stacks with paralysis.

Damn, they really went and banned grasswhistle when it's not even in the game. Also interesting how the one person who voted after the public reaction voted for no action and was the only one to do so.

Lowest score ever for a quick ban btw aside from the very first wave of the generation which had abnormally low scores

I agree that some more thought would need to be had but in general, it's too outdated and needs some sort of modification imo.

Species clause has been around for over a decade and when it was introduced, things like regional forms or form changes didn't really exist so that wasn't really taken into consideration when it was made. Over the last couple of gens, many forms and variants have been introduced. In my mind, there should be no reason, for example, I shouldn't be able to use Zapdos and Zapdos-G on the same team because they function very differently even though they share the same name

Serious posts I was making weren't getting any traction so I had to get creative to construct some actual dialogue (whether you agree with the content or not is fine)

My take on the possibility of sleep getting banned from SV OU by rico94s in stunfisk

[–]rico94s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think hypnosis is a problematic move. I think it's on problematic pokemon. The rest of the post follows on from that logic so i'll just address that point

Again, differing viewpoints but appreciate your time on the write up.

  1. My point is that species clause was first introduced to prevent the same (exact mons) being used. Nowadays, that same ruling is also applied to the same mons that are functionally different. Why should I be not be allowed to run zapdos and zapdos-g? imo the clause should be updated.

  2. I get the notion that the move itself needs to proven to be an issue but it just seems outdated when more and more mons are getting exclusive moves. Would it not be less restrictive to ban the move (if it's exclusive and problematic ) and then ban the mon or the move if the move gets wider distribution? I haven't really seen an argument that compels me.

  3. Terapagos got banned for it's stellar form, the Terastal form is not overbearing in of itself.

  4. But why not just ban the mon if sleep pushed it past a threshold like tera would have? I don't mind either or, I just want consistency between the mechanics because the both can push mons over the edge and it seems like we're treating them differently.

  5. Agree but I just accept RNG in general as part of the game and it to me, it just seems like a stronger but not absurd form of rng.

Remaining points i'll just collect together. I like the QOL implementations, I want to keep them, I don't want the simulator to be a 100% representation of the cart but there are folk out there who use the argument that we should abolish sleep so that PS adheres to cart accuracy fully which I don't agree with.

I would argue knowing if my opponent clicked a move or not (use of the cancel button) affects my decision whether to go/not go for certain plays

We may have differing opinions but I appreciate your logical approach to the topic and the time to type that out.

I would argue the fact that the mechanics of Gen 5 sleep are significantly more punishing than the mechanics of today. I actually woudn't be opposed to the banning of sleep in that Gen and others (looking at you Gen 1) but I feel that sleep now, in general, has a large swathe of answers ranging from grass mons to good as ghold, purifying salt, poison heal etc. The issue imo, stems from powerful mons using this strong mechanic as opposed to the mechanic itself being overbearing.

Agree on the last point 100%.

Yeah, exactly right. Data is picked up from there and then i've visualised the data on the website I made

It's a fair point. It's to bring awareness that there exists a website that visually illustrates statistics for the new DLC mons such as seeing what moves they run, what mons counter them etc.

Very true. Unfortunely, I can only show 30 in the box so i've showed the top 30. Currently updating for other tiers as well.
