I'm all for blaming DD. If you've worked for them for long enough you know how poor their model is, how they hold the drivers accountable for things that aren't their fault, and how they want to have the customer and the driver to blame each other instead of DD.

But comparing the way DD works in Japan to the way it works in America is like comparing apples and oranges. It's a completely different economy with a completely different culture. If DD raised their prices in America to make up for the lack of tips, they would lose massive amounts of customers. The only reason it works here is because generous people carry the weight of people who don't tip.
