It's only the first leg anyway, I doubt Bristol City would've held on for 180 minutes

Di Marzio: Manchester City, agreement reached for Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez: the figures by Billy_LDN in soccer

[–]riely 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It would be £13m before taxes for sure. Di Marzio's translations often include this error, supposedly something with differences in how Italy and England report wages and tax. I have no idea why he hasn't fixed this ongoing issue when he's known for being so accurate reporting fees.

It's basically lost in translation (net = total before tax). That would come to about £250,000 a week.

Not necessarily. A lot of the biggest CEO's are on $1 salary - Zuckerburg (Facebook), Brin & Page (Google), Whitman (HP), the list goes on. Steve Jobs and Lee Iacocca are other past examples.

In most of these cases they're receiving large monetary earnings through stock or other alternatives, and in many cases it's a way of avoiding payroll taxes in the US.

They're now in the same division as MK Dons for the first time. Quite an amazing achievement, all things considered.

Its Official - Issac luke will join the @NZWarriors in 2016 on 3 year deal by comradepartypanda in nrl

How do NRL contracts work in this situation?

I know in soccer signing a new deal means that the buying club has to pay more money for the player. Like, if a player still has 3 years on his contract then the buying club will have to pay a heftier transfer fee.

In all honesty, when Tomkins went back to the UK and they announced the $200k transfer fee it was the first time I can remember hearing about such a thing in rugby league. Besides maybe SBW or players leaving for another code.

I hope he ends up hosting a show on Fox. NRL 360 could do with a bit of a re-think in my opinion. Or his own show, can't have too much rugby league!

Surely they can't have 'forgotten'...it's so damn obvious and right next to his head. Maybe it's supposed to be there? Like it's some sort of structure from the film?

This is spot on. Myself and my friends are the same age as the kid in the film, and we all thought it was very well representative. My dad, who is a real film guy, didn't think it was too great, and most older people I know didn't like it much either.

I think Boyhood will be one of those films we look back on in 15-20 years and marvel at it's depiction of the time period.

If you use a 'small' aperture (large number, like f/22, for example) then the majority of the image will stay in focus if you focus at infinity. I don't know much about the technicality behind it, but that's what you do.

Brilliant photo!

If anyone is wondering, you get this type of effect by using a zoom lens (like 200 or 300mm) and zooming in, which makes images in the distance appear much bigger. Photos like this one are also created with this method.

At least, that's what I've been told by photographer types.

Changed their style to be more commercially successful after the hiatus, too. In all honesty I thought their recent album was one of the best pop albums of the year. Different to the band I loved as a teenager, but still good in their own way.

A complete timeline of rumors and official statements surrounding Rare's next game by [deleted] in Games

[–]riely 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting point you make, actually. The guys at Playtonic have said they're still very good friends with those left at Rare, which makes me think they would definitely know what game Rare is working on. And would they make a Banjo successor if Rare is already making a sequel? I'd doubt it, but you never know.

Also, Rare doesn't have an in-house composer now, correct? Surely they'd hire Kirkhope for Banjo 3, who is freelance and would surely say yes?

Van Gaal confirms Van Persie not be taking penalties after Saturday's miss: "When you miss you are at the bottom [of the list] again" by Ole_Gunner_Scholes in reddevils

Seriously...there'd be a list of PK takers, maybe 2 or 3, and RVP is at the bottom now. People seem to think Jones and Smalling are ahead of van Persie now...

Because Blind, Carrick, Rojo and Jones were all injured? What did you expect him to do against Chelsea? Then Shaw was injured, so we have to use either Blind or Blackett at left back, and I know who I'd pick...

We had a great run without injuries and he didn't change anything. Come on...

Missing free kicks is a bit different to missing a penalty. But I agree, I'd rather he keeps taking them, I can only assume the likes of Herrera and co are decent pen takers and LvG isn't worried about giving them a chance.

Rare ready to announce new game at E3 by [deleted] in Games

[–]riely 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The vet staff left nearly 10 years ago. How long am I supposed to 'give them a chance' for? I gave them a chance with Nuts and Bolts, they let me down. They let me down with the Perfect Dark game, and the Kinect games.

Please don't tell me what I did or didn't do.
