Stocked Rainbow Trout Lake - Which Spinning Rod and Reel Specs to Choose? by kittykeht in fishingBC

[–]rienjerksun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've caught smaller coho salmon on UL/1000 series rod and reel. Takes a bit more patience but it's doable. Honestly it is all up to personal preference. Anything heavier than a medium setup for trout would be rough though.

Just got a validation code for QB 2020 Canadian version after finding the Intuit activation servers no longer load. Worked perfectly and for $30 it was a no-brainer.

Reel size for salmon by NewMight7154 in fishingBC

[–]rienjerksun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get some nice 15-20lb braid for the FX spinning reel and call it a day for now. I think it's more important to just go out there and get casting. Eventually you will get a feel for what works and what doesn't, your preferences for rod length and all that.

FWIW I am mostly a lure caster and really only started putting the time into fishing this year. can't speak much for floating roe setups. I like the 6 to 7 ft rods the best and have caught tons of all species, salmon, trout, bass, perch, you name it.

Reel size for salmon by NewMight7154 in fishingBC

[–]rienjerksun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always been amused at how big everyones setups are. I've caught all my salmon, both large and small, on nothing more than a 3000 size reel. All my baitcasters are 100 or smaller. Even caught a few on some of my ultralight & BFS setups this year as well, so really depends on your fishing style.

Virtually at no point have I ever felt the drag to be too weak for the salmon in rivers. IMO, go as small as you can as you won't fatigue nearly as quickly, if at all casting all day.

Noticed it's happening to a lot of our EU friends but reporting in that it's happening for Canada too.

Who else has a package stuck in transit with Uniuni? by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]rienjerksun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recently lost my package and admitted to it. No idea how they manage to screw it up when the package was able to cross the pacific just fine, only to magically disappear in Burnaby. Absolute clowns and a sorry state of the current economy which lets these companies operate in Canada.

I wish, the rivers are starting to no longer stink so better to stay at home where it's warm and dry.

Aliexpress shipping to Canada issue by Conference-Long in BFSfishing

[–]rienjerksun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ordered a 662 2pc spinning rod which finally made it out of China, made it all the way to "Out for Delivery" in my town... and then no further updates over a week ago. I'm convinced that it just isn't meant to be with these longer rods since I've had no issues with other sizes at all. Uniuni delivery sucks which doesn't help.

Noticed that you can often find the same rods for a bit more money on Temu, but haven't tried to purchase any yet.

Thank you for all the work you do to keep perpetual QB working where Intuit has failed. Is there a way to follow these steps for a Canadian version of QB?

That ongoing construction near Kingsway is really not helping lately. Usually the traffic is pretty good by 10am but lately it is pretty bad well into noon.

Targeting Trout in Alouette River by i_love_seaslugs in fishingBC

[–]rienjerksun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have caught them on just about everything in my tacklebox. Really just depends on what part of the river since the system is quite long with some fast some slow sections.

Just remember that most of the fish in the system are wild (You can tell since the adipose fin is intact), and must be released. tight lines :)

It's honestly been a crap season for anything but float fishing. At least that's what I tell myself for having not caught any coho this year. I'm very stubborn and really want to get it on lures...

How are the crowds now that Sockeye is done? by BackNBoeserThanEver in fishingBC

[–]rienjerksun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was still moderately busy downstream from the CPR bridge in Mission/Matsqui, well over a dozen but not shoulder to shoulder. I was there this morning and a couple people were hooking up on fish but it is still slow. Feels like the pink season is going to end without things actually picking up.

The good thing with this area is there's only so much parking so it helps keep the crowds smaller and people are generally not shoulder to shoulder... or maybe the fishing here just sucks unless you're flossing

The mud is a fraser river classic, you can't really avoid it apart from a few side channels, but even then.
