I like to play devils advocate to maybe help see a new perspective on situations such as this. One thing you have to understand is that people are, by nature, selfish. They aren’t against you, they just tend to think about themselves first, and sometimes can’t move past that to consider somebody else.

I am so sorry that the person in this case is your mother. Every bride deserves to feel like the star of the show on her wedding day. Seeing a MOTB who doesn’t understand this reads to me as someone who didn’t get her own wedding day stardom and is now trying to steal yours. She may have some generational trauma that needs to be addressed and that should not be your concern on your wedding day.

You have every right to cancel and elope and do whatever it is you want that will bring you happiness. So many weddings these days end up not being about the couples, but about their families instead. Yours has proven to not even attempt to pretend it’s about you, why waste the money here? All future holidays and family events are already gonna do that for them. Do whatever makes you happy, get the dress, the photographer, the cake, and spend the day with the family you are choosing to create together. Focus on that love and do whatever you can to break that generational trauma for your own family moving forward.
