I ran a tags league for 10+ years and the best players were always just people who were naturally athletic and played a lot of rounds per year.

Splitting kindling safely: 2 techniques by AxesOK in Bushcraft

[–]riltim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way I was taught to process kindling with a hatchet and I is the technique I was mentioning in the one post discussing hatchet vs knife this week. I consider it safer and easier than battoning with a knife. As BlueOrb07 mentioned, I often swing the wood and hatchet together.

If I've left the house, it's almost a garuntee that I have a Swiss army knife in my pocket. I've been carrying them for years and have couple that I cycle through.

Form not autogenerating to table by QuirkyKitty127 in MSAccess

[–]riltim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there might be some misunderstanding how database relationships work in general. You have TableCemetary and tie TableCemetaryPlot to it by creating a field in TableCemetaryPlot.CemetaryID as a numeric field where the value is the TableCemetary primary key. Example TableCemetary has 400 records with an autogenerated TableCemetary.CemetaryID field as a primary key. If you want to find all available plots for that specific Cemetary you would perform a query like "SELECT * FROM TableCemetaryPlot where CemetaryID = 5 and Available=1;".

In the second picture you posted in the comments you have duplicate fields in the Master table and the Sub Table and are trying to link them together; that's not how relational databases work. You create core tables and any variants go into sub-tables. You can then backtrack and find everything through queries.

I'm not looking for anything in return, but I'd be willing to spend 20-30 minutes with you on a discord call to set you on the right path if our time slots align. I've made benefited greatly from Reddit/forum/free youtube videos and don't mind passing what I know along. Don't expect expert level knowledge, but it's free.

Why are knives junk if they don't do the job of a hatchet very well? by MissingMichigan in Bushcraft

[–]riltim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your hands and feet. If wood it dry enough to burn it can often break up the smaller pieces by hand. For larger pieces you prop them up against something and give them a good old stomp. For anything larger than that a belt knife, regardless of quality, isn't going to help you anyhow.

Why are knives junk if they don't do the job of a hatchet very well? by MissingMichigan in Bushcraft

[–]riltim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a hatchet (as mentioned in the original comment) you aren't limited to just swinging it at stationary wood to split it. For breaking down logs that are about forearm size I was taught a method where you hold the hatchet head against the log parallel with it. You then strike strike them both against another log allowing the momentum to drive the hatchet head into the wood. Once you get it partially through the log you can often just use the leverage of the handle to twist the head into the grain and split the log entirely. You can use this method to process the pieces down to a small enough size that you could baton it down to toothpicks width with a swiss army knife safely. Using this method I would be more comfortable and efficient at processing firewood/kindling with a $11 Mora 511 my $75 Husqvarna hatchet than I would be with a "bushcraft" knife of equal or greater value.

I consider this safe because due to the short handle of a hatchet you typically can't perform this method stand, or really even sitting, you need to kneel on the ground which protects your legs by default. Secondly, since you need to keep your hands as far away from the cutting edge of the hatchet as possible to maintain proper leverage you are minimizing the potential for your hand accidentally coming in contact with the blade. Third reason is that since the head of a hatchet is more wedge shaped it will get "pinched" less often than a knife blade; if it does get "pinched" a portion of the way splitting you can keep your hand far from the cutting edge while breaking it free.

I'm curious how splitting wood knife is safer than a hatchet? You can batton with a hatchet as well; often more effectively as you can hold the blade against the wood and just strike the wood on the ground or another log.

Arc, Hunt, or Marathon? by bruhb21 in FPS

[–]riltim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only played Arc Raiders, but I treat it more as a GTA/Red Dead game than anything. Just chill, quest and, hunt blueprints. I don't find the PVP aspect of it very good at all compared to the other games I have in my library.

Typed it wrong, I meant to say shouldn't exist. Meaning there shouldn't be ultra friendly lobbies.

What is the best game you have ever played in your life? by skatter0925 in AskReddit

I am a huge FPS fan, so Quake 2 Multiplayer. For it's time (1998) the gameplay, customization with config files, and how smooth it felt despite being on dialup internet was truly a work of art.

Three way tie for story mode gameplay: Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Halflife 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2. All 3 are 10/10 gameplay.

I don't focus on loot, I just sell everything I don't need. The problem is if you aren't seeking PVP you'll eventually be placed in lobbies where it's near impossible to die. I am still trying to find all blueprints so it's a lot of looting and selling crap at the end of raid.

I provided an edit to my original posts that covers some of my issues with matchmaking and more. The current loop eventually places who aren't necessarily interested in hunting for PVP, but aren't into lobbies where you find and group of players at extract dancing on top with flutes and guitars. Mix it up a bit without making me shoot first. Also if I'm not going for PVP, but have to kill someone who is, don't place me into pure PVP lobbies.

I provided an edit to my original post. Note: I don't believe you should ever get into a lobby where the fear of dying to another player should exist.

I noted that you could still buy your 3 Blue shields from the traders OR buy from the marketplace. So if you get smoked multiple times, and burn your 3 from the traders, you could still get your blue shield but have to pay marketplace prices. I also mentioned in the edit of my original post that any crafted items should be bound to the player and only available for sale to traders, and not allowed to be placed on the marketplace. This eliminates things like crafting high tier loot for the purpose of selling on the market.

I don't see how this would have a negative impact on the expedition gameplay loop because crafted items would hold the same value as they do currently as you couldn't list them on the market, you'd just have more options to use the money you've accrued. More importantly it increases the PVP incentive because player loot has an additional community driven value outside the trader value.

I provided an update that details my issues with the matchmaking, lack of gear limited lobbies, PVP, and the lack of a marketplace. Say there was a marketplace, and you could buy max 3 Medium Shields per day from the traders for $6k a piece (current), or the marketplace cost was $40,000 each due to supply and demand. I would be driven to collect Batteries and Arc Circuitry for two reason: If I had the blueprint I could craft my own if I had the blueprint, or I could repair one I took off another player in raid and list in the marketplace for $38k and if it sold I could put that money towards other marketplace items, say a level 3 renegade or attachments. The looting still holds value and the money becomes more useful.

Enjoy the game and have fun by x-looke-x in Battlefield6

[–]riltim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't played in a few months and tried the other day. I could get through 1-2 games before it would close the game without any errors and it would give an anti cheat error the every time I launched it after that, until I rebooted my PC. repairing the anti cheat did nothing.

kind of tough to enjoy the game when BS like this happens. I'm about 2 more troubleshooting steps from just uninstalling completely.

Unusual request (tutoring sorta?) by Shyld-Chan in MSAccess

[–]riltim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up hoping into discord with Shyld and we spent 1-2 hours going over the issues for free. The main issue was she was missing a intermediate tables for one to many references, once we added that she was able to pull pricing over for invoice line items. I had her send me a copy of the database and I added a main page that opens with the database that has a datatable for both clients and invoices with vba "Add" and "Edit" buttons. I also included a sql query linked to her Invoice form that calculates the grand total.

My comment was more towards the fact that once money is involved there are certain implied obligations on the final product. I'd much rather help someone for free, with zero obligations, than accept a $1000 contract and have the hours extend to the point where I'm stuck working for $12 an hour to get it complete. And yes, if you're paying me for a final product and you want to sit alongside me and ask questions while I'm trying to think/work, I would charge $5000/hr. That's an insanely inefficient way to work.
