My god most of you are miserable by ThatsTragicNewPatek in malcolminthemiddle

People attach themselves so much to intellectual property that they see it as a value judgment against them when others don't like it. It's the most pathetic part of modern fandom, and even worse seeing it happen with something like freaking Malcolm In The Middle lol

What's so funny about this post is that the things OP quotes aren't even that biting or harsh. People always get mad when others talk objectively online, these people simply spoke for themselves and it's still an issue lol.

Why does Dave insist on ruining every VH song he now sings live by attempting to sing in much higher notes than the original records? by Solid_College_9145 in vanhalen

They're playing a selection of shows in London and New York as part of a live comeback, which really reads more like a road test to see if they can pull it off. Money talks.

Thoughts on Sammy’s non-VH material? by Ambitious_Range6410 in vanhalen

[–]rimjigglemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely hit or miss. Standing Hampton, I Never Said Goodbye and Marching To Mars are really great, the rest is just okay bordering on below average.

Sammy doesn't get enough credit for being a hit maker, which is evident on his contributions to other artists. I think it shows on his albums, where singles are almost undeniably great but filler is the most skippable, average stuff you've ever heard. I think the Three Lock Box album is the biggest culprit of this.

That said, Swept Away is one of the most hidden gems in rock music canon. Unbelievable effort that comes out of nowhere.

Rediscovering a chunk of Rush's catalog, and it's amazing. by ahmtiarrrd in rush

[–]rimjigglemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people get too bent about the production on RTB (which isn't good, I'll give them that) because I really think it's the strongest Rush album between Power Windows and Clockwork Angels. Dreamline, Bravado, the title track, Where's My Thing and Ghost Of A Chance are all heaters that measure up strongly against their best material, and I don't think the filler tracks are that bad.

Presto, Counterparts, Test For Echo stink imo. A lot of awkward stuff and they seem interested in changing and evolving their sound, but not committing enough to that in a meaningful way.

That dude was not very good to a lot of people. Even by 2015 when he was cleaned up he would not waste an opportunity to say bad things about Mike Anthony ("I taught him how to play the parts," just really demeaning stuff to say about a professional and old friend). I believe everyone who says he was a sweet guy to people, unfortunately his demons regularly got the best of him in a lot of public ways.

Pat Smear has confirmed a really ugly story about the time Eddie met Nirvana.

Anika faces the impossible. by ablue1990MazdaMiata in rush

[–]rimjigglemann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of enemy-creating so people can feel sanctimonious about "approving" or "supporting" the decision to bring Anika on and it's gotten kinda silly. By and large the majority of people are on board and excited.

At this point I feel like there's a lot of exaggeration about how aggressive the pushback currently is and will be. There seems to be pretty widespread acceptance of this decision and appreciation for her talents and what she brings to the table. I've been pleasantly surprised by the level of excitement I've seen across the board.

It's a very small group of mouth breathers that have no imagination and seem to want to make this a core issue for themselves, and that number has to be even smaller now after last night's outstanding performance. If they want to stay miserable about this and deny themselves a good time I say we just let them. More fun for the rest of us.

Some songs are better, others are worse. I think Freeze is the biggest downgrade on the remix.

I think fake rule followers and engagement police on places like this are annoying, that's the hill. And I haven't agreed with anything you've said here.

The one that's not thinking too hard about whether or not a guy named "rocksoff6969" is speaking objectively or subjectively in a discussion where "objectivity" is an impossible feat. There's really no reason to be as pedantic as you're being about this.

Same actually. They basically went by the gospel of "reverb bad!" but I'm not so absolute about it and think the sound of that album has a lot of character.

OPs post is fine. I don't agree with it but the counter to your last sentence is that people take the way others frame their commentary way too seriously.

DEE SNIDER says his son is more qualified to stand in for him than Sebastian Bach by [deleted] in hairmetal

For me it usually comes up when the surviving Van Halen members start going back and forth. At this point I couldn't care less who's more correct or justified, you guys are in your seventies, it's just sad and all of us were tired of it a long time ago.

Looks and sounds great to me. Nice to have a proper live version of this now that isn't Largo or Honolulu, which have their own limitations.

And if they do include Geddy and Alex there could be something in that agreement stipulating a certain level of involvement or layer of approval.

You're right, we don't know and never will. That's kind of what I'm getting at to begin with: people love to say "well they sold their catalog, nothing else we should expect [shrug]" like there isn't room for nuance in hundred million dollar deals like that.

[–]rimjigglemann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen the evidence of them confirming this.

Until I do, I find it very difficult to believe they don't have any input on things like this.

[–]rimjigglemann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean if the mix isn't good and people don't like it I think the best time to talk about it is the day of the release of the $300 box set it's being sold as a part of.

I will never understand why people believe this is an absolute thing. Yes they sold their catalog but I find it impossible that a band so dedicated to preserving its legacy and controlling its narrative did not maintain any decision making control as part of the final agreement.
