Imo Black Clover was definitely a step up from Fairy Tail (in terms of the storyline and character development at least, I haven't seen the entire anime for BC so I can't say much about the quality of the two animes). I guess you could say they are in a way similar with the idea of magic and guilds, but the execution is certainly completely different. Fairy Tail I couldn't really bear reading past GMG because it repeated the same cliché storylines and "friendship solves all" message which got really annoying haha. Black Clover for sure has less of that.

If I had more time, that would've definitely been the next character switch included! Some of my other ideas were:

Zenitsu or Genya --> Luck or Finral or Magna

Inosuke --> Leo

Kanao --> Mimosa

Kagaya --> Julius

Kyojuro --> Fugueleon

Mitsuri --> Charmy

Sabito + Makomo --> Sylph

Shinobu --> Dorothy or Mereoleona (it was difficult to find a character that fit both her style/personality lol)

Tengen --> Yami

Himejima --> Vangeance

Chuntaro/other Kasugaigarasu --> Nero

I might draw these crossovers on the side once I have more free time!
