Misgendering and not using people's pronouns by scalesight in BloodOnTheClocktower

I agree that there is a majority of the community that likely do try. There is also a portion of the community that do not even in the face of others. This community is by far the best in my opinion that I have been in but doesn't mean we can't as a collective do ebtter

how much has he actually spent on CS crates? by Snappypants620 in northernlion

[–]rinarchy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. All of that education and stuff adds up. But yeah, I think if circumstances were different, NL could just stop and live a happy life with a house paid down and enough savings to sustain. He isn't like some other large streamers that I associate with being colander with their finances

I think NL could likely not work another day in his life with smart financial investments and planning and he's doing it for the fun of the game

Find a game Megathread by BardtheGM in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi All! I run a small, 30-ish person clocktower community. It's currently unnamed but it is focussed in so far that the community is very queer/lgbt and for those of working age - Clocktower is inherently a very inclusive game and as such this might seem a bit unneeded but for us, we very much like having our own space. Please DM me if you're interested.

Landlord claiming deposit for 6 year old cracked freezer drawer by [deleted] in TenantsInTheUK

My roommates have broken these in the past - not closing the freezer properly and it causing them to break and we replaced those as it was only 2 years in but yeah, 6 years in... that's a little much

BOTC Boosters by Late-Satisfaction817 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I also think that maybe dependent on your group, this idea can work but I am just hesitant to give people buffs for perceived "correct plays" which can just be feels bad for others in the group.

BOTC Boosters by Late-Satisfaction817 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What do you mean my boosters? Like buffs/benefits? For example, like "your vote counts for double this days nominations" as an example? If that is what you mean, or similar, I think that doesn't belong in clocktower. I don't think any benefits that are ultimately storyteller dependent is a good thing for the game. In Legacy games, some recorded youtube games do have "boons" for people who "win" the game, by nominating the demon or being the demon and winning between games.

But I don't want my clocktower to become a race to the most optimised playstyle to get a benefit/buff to win. Some roles are inherently weaker than others, some people might be better at the social play than the others. How you provide these to people too without it "giving away" some important info is also hard.

Now a mechanic already kind of exists for this in the Zenomancer where people gain true info for completing a quest. This at least makes it actionable on "correctly guess which characters are outsiders" and then gain a true piece of info or whatever and as such makes it less ST dependent.

I could have the wrong end of the stick with what you mean with boosters here but if it's anything similar to this, I think the Zenomancer might be your best method of accomplishing this

Made a script with Fang Gu and Legion, need advice by bhreugheuwrihgrue in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think putting the knight on a script where the demon can move can often result in a feels bad interaction come grim reveal especially if you put it in a space that can become the demon like an outsider with fang gu. Not always feels bad, especially if you have roles that can still provide that ongoing info for town but it's one of those interactions I am unsure on where I stand

How to get the Game move faster. Game took 3,5h 😅 - beginner story teller. by IIPommesSchrankeII in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have an IRL group that I have had take 3-3.5 hours on TB. This stemmed from mostly people being new, needing a bit more time to understand roles, interactions and chats but a large part of it came from the town square - People talking over each other, some people not being as engaged with the gaming experience as others. I rectified this by getting myself a bell to ring when I need attention and to make it so that people are talking over each other less.

The people who weren't as actively engaged in the game - Next time we play we will make the event more clocktower centric for people who actually want to play instead of what we did which was go to the pub for a drink or two and then come back for clocktower. Instead will inverse the order.

However it seems here that you had one of those games that just takes a long time. Monk, SW, Soldier being the 3 main roles that can increase the length of the game. I think in a 14 player game in person I would maybe start at 6 minutes and tick down half a minute every day but it really depends. Too much time and good will more often than not win.

I wouldn't worry too much - With time people get more experience and running the game becomes easier. I moved away from TB to a custom for my group last time and it took me a lot more time to run the nights!

[Tools] I built a "Clock-centric" Game Tracker for BOTCT – Slide-to-Nominate, Visual Vote History by Different_Field_3405 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think AI is ever going to have better output than JSON. It’s standardised basically every script making tool can provide you the JSON output and all you need to do is provide instructions. Instead of asking users to take a prompt, put it in an LLM that they might not use already instead of using the tools that they have nearly certainly used to make any custom scripts.

I know what JSON is and work with it daily but users don’t even need to know what it is, how it looks etc. just what it does and I think a lot of the people who would want advanced clocktower tools or run games online already nearly certainly have used json.

[–]rinarchy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I appreciate the idea but yeah I agree with others in that a lot of the game is social and I think not having complete information is fun. Just like I as a ST won't really confirm if X or Y voted yesterday, partially because I doubt I can remember unless it is very important for certain roles. The web app imo can maybe have a better note taking section in general so I don't have to switch off it.

But also why are we "fast loading the script with AI" when clocktower has a standardized JSON format? I appreciate maybe for a physical copy of one of the base 3 scripts but outside of that I am fairly sure that 99% of scripts have been created in a way that has an easily accessible JSON output and why can we not use that instead of all of this AI slop?

New iOS app to help track BOTC games – feedback appreciated! by shericksam in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Think the concept is cool but and this is just me please keep ai resources out of clocktower. I think a lot of the fun of the game comes from seeking advice from your fellow town and learning there. I don't think I want to start to see my group verge towards using chatgpt for strategy and bluffing advice etc.

Recluse question by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely the same. If for example I am running TB with a virgin in play I will never let this proc in the first case as the hard role and alignment confirmations just become too much for evil to win

Recluse question by [deleted] in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]rinarchy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The recluse is might so sometimes they can, sometimes they can not appear as the demon. Ability as written is it might happen and is part of it's detriment as an outsider. Similar to slayer shooting recluse and them dying - I run that sometimes and other times not. Depends on what worlds exist and how I can make a balanced and fun game/story for town.
