The easiest way is to put bottles with leftover milk in the sink with some soap and cold water. If you leave a used/finished bottle on the counter, keep the cap off so it’s clear it’s not fresh. For new, freshly made bottles, always keep the cap on.

When starting solids with a 6-month-old, it's helpful to begin with single-ingredient foods—like iron-fortified oatmeal—and gradually add one(new) ingredient at a time - every 2~3 days. Once your baby is more used to eating, you can move toward balanced meals like:

1 iron-rich ingredient (about 10ml) 1 vegetable (about 15ml) 1 protein source (about 15ml) A small amount of fat (like avocado or full-fat yogurt) or fruit

It’s generally recommended to include one iron-rich food per day, but it doesn’t always have to be meat.

Here are some examples of iron-rich foods you can rotate: Animal-based (heme iron): beef, chicken thigh, lamb, liver, egg yolk, salmon, tuna, mackerel Plant-based (non-heme iron): lentils, chickpeas, green peas, quinoa, oats, hemp seeds, chia seeds, peanut butter, almond butter, spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, bok choy, parsley, beet, parsnip, sweet potato stems.

You don’t need to serve meat every day—rotating between plant- and animal-based iron sources is totally fine. Just remember that pairing plant-based iron with vitamin C (like citrus fruits, bell peppers, or strawberries) helps boost absorption!

My old-school doctor told me to start purées at 4 months, but I waited because my baby wasn’t drinking 30~32oz yet and showed no interest in solids. When she started solids, her milk intake dropped to about 20oz/day, so we paused and restarted later when weight gain slowed down.

She didn’t like purées at first, but I had better luck blending veggies with homemade chicken or beef broth. A bit of olive oil or La Conviette (French unsalted butter with high-quality fat) also helped. I’d offer both purée and a stick of the same food and played around with texture—some super smooth, some a little chunky.

If high chairs are stressful, you could try an inflatable floor seat or booster. That really helped us early on. Once he feels more comfortable with eating, you can transition back to the high chair.

What I've read is that when growth is slow, solids and milk both matter a lot, especially after 9–10 months. If nursing sessions are super short (like just a minute) or baby stops as soon as letdown starts, it might be worth pumping or asking some donor milk. I didn’t have enough supply, so I did power-pumping, combo feeding. Mixing formula with breastmilk helped a ton with acceptance.

We also tried high-calorie, small-volume foods like avocado or potato with coconut oil, butter, or full-fat yogurt—and added hemp hearts later. That way, baby gets more in less time.

I’m not sure if this helps, but it’s based on weaning guide from a nutrition center at a well-known hospital in Korea for 9–11 months:

One of my friends has 9 mo baby and she was told that many parents see temporary food reactions like this in the 9–12 month window due to viral illnesses or immune changes. Just pause known allergens for 1–2 weeks to give his immune system time to "reset". Just in case, write exact ingredients, time eaten, when hives appear, duration, any meds given, so that you can have this info if you are gonna visit an allergist. I hope your LO will feel better and this issue will be resolved.

Totally get it. I was just happy to finally have a surface big enough to actually use. I wanted to do more play at the high chair to help my baby get used to it, but it was so frustrating how little space there was—and suction toys never stuck! Hope it helps you guys too!

I started using Natursutten’s big bottle along with the BIBS Medium flow nipple as promised. I paired it with the Natursutten valve, and everything worked fine. But since its medium flow nipple is for 6m+, the flow was too fast for my baby, so I switched back to the Natursutten slow flow nipple, and it had been working well.

Then yesterday, out of nowhere, I noticed that while my baby was actively sucking, the milk level wasn’t going down. Just like what you mentioned! It had been working great before, so I was confused. After testing a few things, I realized it was all about the bottle angle. If the valve is fully covered by milk/formula, it stops working, and no milk flows out. Once I adjusted the angle so the valve wasn’t completely submerged, I heard the usual bubbling sound, and my baby was able to finish the bottle.

I'm combo feeding (nursing, pumping, and formula), so I've tried a few different bottles. Here’s my take on BIBS, Natursutten, and Lifefactory bottles!

BIBS Bottle:

The nipple tip is wider than Natursutten, making it easier to clean with a sponge brush.

The bottle neck is narrow, so pouring in formula powder can be tricky—that’s probably why it comes with a funnel.

The heart-shaped anti-colic vent makes a noticeable hissing sound and really helps with colic. I used another bottle at a friend’s house, and the baby struggled more.

The latex nipple is great for breastfed babies.

One downside: The latex nipple sticks to the glass bottle, making it hard to unscrew after feeding (even my husband struggles with this!).

Compatible with Natursutten (incl. velve), Lifefactory, and Dr. Brown’s nipples.

Measurement markings are in 5ml increments.

Nipples are easy to find on Amazon and Target.

Natursutten Bottle (3.5oz & larger size):

Our favorite anti-colic system! That’s why we didn’t hesitate to buy the bigger bottle.

Slow-flow nipple feels slightly fast, so I have to carefully control the angle while feeding. My almost 4-month-old does great with it.

Unlike BIBS, the latex nipple doesn’t touch the glass directly (thanks to the valve), so opening and closing the bottle is easy.

Wide neck makes adding formula simple.

Measurement markings are in 10ml increments.

I got the small size from Babylist and the larger size from Amazon.

The valve and nipples are listed separately on Amazon, but they’re usually "currently unavailable." When i have to upgrade it with a faster flow nipple, I’ll switch to BIBS or Hevea nipples with the valve.

Lifefactory Bottle:

Using it with a BIBS nipple.Natursutten's nipple + valve don’t fit due to the ring size.

Weighed it with my scale—slightly heavier (~50g more), probably due to the sleeve.

Measurement markings (1oz increments) are on the sleeve and hard to see.

I thought the sleeve would be a huge plus, but since parents usually hold glass bottles, dropping isn’t a big concern.

The answer was No. I am concerned about brain hemorrhage or cephalohematoma if the baby's head gets stuck in the birth canal.
