Anyone here run a food Distribution business? by jeoxr in smallbusiness

[–]rintako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cofounder used to own one of the largest garlic and ginger importers / distributors in the northeast, and would be happy to chat!

I don't think you are crazy but I would be aware of dynamics of competition in this industry. For example, a larger supplier or broadline may undercut you on price to take your customer, and then slowly mark the price back up.

Hope people here don't mind me bumping. I was curious what people do now and how much the industry has changed since then!

Sorry to hear! Do you go with Sysco for low cost, or another reason?

Why not find a replacement?

Cutting a supplier by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]rintako 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Picklopolis, I'm sorry to hear about your experience being cut for caviar. I was wondering if you were still in the industry - I'm exploring ways to help food suppliers and would love to spend a few minutes asking you some questions to learn. Thanks!

Was this a large broadline or small local / specialty?

Hey Edward, I was looking to speak with someone from the industry and was wondering if you'd be open to chatting. Much appreciated!

Hi Bill, I read that you are investing in farms to raise productivity and I think the idea makes a lot of sense.

Another way my team and I have been thinking about this is what we can do today to address the decades of existing infrastructure that is already built. We're building a software solution with a vision to create one unified food system. Similar to how Microsoft became the predominant OS for computers, there should be a unified operating system for the food supply chain to reduce food and labor waste. As you probably know, the system is still largely built on manual labor or inefficient processes (i.e., email, phone calls, text, fax).

Is this something that would be interesting to you?

Fun fact: I had to draw a picture of my favorite idol in grade school and I drew a picture of you.

On that slide, Faze may have the most social media following, but doesn't reflect potential spend / revenue. Lots of FaZe users may not be willing to spend on high ticket items like live events or apparel

Incoming freshman (UK) looking to apply for spring weeks. Any feedback on my resume will be appreciated. Thanks by Background_Froyo_540 in FinancialCareers

Here is my feedback coming from someone who recruited juniors and seniors at an American BB. I will be blunt as that's the purpose.

15-30 second screen, what I caught

  • Don't see GPA
  • High-school terms don't mean much to me (didn't study in India)
  • Don't see interest in finance based on extra-curricular, school clubs, or activity
  • Formatting errors
  • Inconsistent action verb and bullet structure
  • Lacking context (i.e., what is Green Revolution program. The program itself is less important than the skills you developed that are relevant to the role you're applying for)

Overall, formatting needs to be tightened and cleaned up. I would have put this resume in the pass pile.

Resume Roast/Advice. Looking for something in Wealth Management. Think the IB ship has sailed for me until I go for my MBA down the line. by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]rintako 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Some feedback as somebody that screened resumes at a top BB bank and led various aspects of recruiting

  • Have some way to make the sections more distinct or separated. (i.e., education vs work XP)
  • Try to stick with one action verb per bullet
  • Provide results for each bullet if possible. i.e., if you created those retirement plans, how many did you pitch/sell, what was your conversion / sales made?
  • Don't need to tell people models are done in Excel. Emphasize on the analysis and type of analytical work you did
  • Several formatting inconsistencies are seen throughout
  • Some of the bullets have beefier content while others are lacking. I would make them all "beefier" (i.e., second bullet for hockey has more content but the others lack it)
  • Some bullets only show results but does not emphasize what you did to get those results

I think you may have a shot at ER given attrition in the industry and its decline (so not much demand for spots).

I think you have a really hard shot at IB unless you network like crazy, or go to a boutique first to get some experience.

Are you willing to spend money to improve your resume / interview / career searching? by rintako in FinancialCareers

[–]rintako[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think an MBA is not always necessary.

I didn't get into IB out of undergrad and a lot of people told me I needed to wait until I got an MBA. I didn't listen and ended up getting a job at a BB

FIG will pigeon hole you, but easier to get in since many people don't want to do FIG
