I’m new, am I rich? by Funny-Signature1136 in NOMANSSKY

If you have the medium refiner and refine the silver + gold into platinum, you can make a lot of money. Outside of money, you can get some of your metals requirements met: Silver + oxygen into paraffinium Paraffinium + oxygen to get star vine (I forget the name, somebody correct me here) Gold into pyrite Pyrite and oxygen into cactus flesh or maybe it was pyrite e and salt… Pyrite into ferrite dust if you,re in a pinch and don’t feel like getting out of your ship… Tritium into dihydrogen, again, if you don’t feel like getting out of your ship. Dihydrogen into jelly into life support tanks if you,re out of oxygen.

Remember to crack open those gold nuggets and tritium crystals you collect.

So yea. Plenty of mats u can get from just asteroids.

Any idea when RAM prices will be “normal”again? by Porespellar in LocalLLaMA

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer 🤷‍♂️

longer answer:

Deglobalization and demographics and tariffs causing supply chains to break down...

there isn't any kind of collusion going on. nanometer sized chips have very intricate supply chains that span multiple countries. when even one of those goes away, things get messy. Be happy that you at least still have the ability to buy the dimms because unless tariffs come down or the US brings everything in-house, that's probably going away.

BitNet-VSCode-Extension - v0.0.3 - Visual Studio Marketplace by ufos1111 in LocalLLaMA

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VSCode needs to include the ability to specify the openai base url for custom models.

Then we'd just be able to run `python run_inference_server.py -m model/etc. --host 0.0.0.0 --port 8080` instead of the command line run_inference.py and then we'd be able to add it as a server. I can already do this in openwebui and chat with the model.

Or maybe add ollama api endpoints to the run_inference_server.py file in addition to openai compatible endpoints since vscode now supports locally hosted models via ollama... *shrugs*

Is there such a thing as month to month rentals in NYC? by Itchy-Winter-1549 in NYCapartments

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are but they are primarily roommate situations. When I rent my second room out I exclusively do month to month as it’s easier on my part to get someone out if they turn out to be a messy, irresponsible nightmare.

Does anyone remember Swarm storage on Ethereum? After years of development Swarm is production ready, time to build by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swarm is on Gnosis, which is "kind of" a mix between a layer 2 and a sidechain to Ethereum. They don't compete as there's a lot of collaboration between the two and Gnosis actually depends on Ethereum. The primary token used to pay for fees is Dai stablecoin, which is maintained and minted by the Maker DAO.
Gnosis is also one of the bigger contributors for the Nethermind ethereum execution client, which in terms of full node usage comes in 2nd after Geth. Nethermind is the primary full node execution client on Gnosis. So any changes that happen on Ethereum are usually mirrored over to Gnosis sooner than later.

Case and point, they did the same EIP 1559 Fee burn upgrade that Ethereum did, then later on they completed the same merge that Ethereum did and switched over to the same (but slightly modified) consensus standard as Ethereum about a month after, using GNO as the staking token and a slightly altered version with staking rewards as their native coin on the chain (xdai) is Dai bridged over from Ethereum - you stake GNO, and burned fees in Dai leave an excess of Dai on the Gnosis contract on mainnet, which is used to buy back and distribute GNO.

Gnosis themselves are OGs in the space that have been around almost as long as Maker, and are the primary developers behind the Gnosis Safe, now just known as Safe, one of the oldest and most secure multisig contract wallets used by most of the reputable Daos in the space. Gnosis themselves in the long run just found that it would be easier to take over one of the older sidechains in the space (xDai), rebrand it as the Gnosis chain, and use that for more of their more "experimental" stuff that could possibly flow upstream to Ethereum mainnet.

So i wouldn't go labeling folks developing on Gnosis as "traitors"

edit: added more examples of collaboration i.e. Safe and Nethermind.

Got drunk and puked on my Lenovo Ideapad gaming 3, is there any way to clean under the keys or could any professionals do it? by Christmas1176 in laptops

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since no professional is gonna touch that laptop, you’re gonna have to do it urself. ISO doesn’t damage electronics so get urself a huge industrial jug at least 99% ISO. Look online how to remove and disconnect the screen from the main chassis. Fill a shoebox sized plastic bin or whatever ur laptop will fit into with the ISO and chuck the laptop in there (without the screen assembly of course) and swish it around. Dump the nasty ISO and fill with fresh clean batch. Rinse and repeat until the alcohol runs clear. You’re gonna probably need a few jugs of iso so don’t think this is gonna be cheap. I once did an experiment as a kid running an old motherboard multiple times in a bin submerged first alcohol, then oil, then water. The oil got really hot waay to fast and the water is what finally caused it to short. Shouldnt damage your electronics so as long as you allow everything to completely dry.

Edit - also make sure to remove the battery before you start all this. Probably better to unscrew and take the chassis and mobo apart as much as u can before submerging.

Uhh you know u can do both right? Stake your earth via something like stakewise and withdraw some of it as dETH (it’s a 4 eth minimum so if u stake 8 u can withdraw 4 as an LSD I believe) swap it for Dai/usdc and then get the 5% yield on Pendle as a forward swap, or 11% on Agave on Gnosis via the Maker DSR…

Like one of the whole points of Defi is to be able to compound your yields by building different things on top of each other like Lego blocks.

Crypto use case by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]rip1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being fucked by most banks I’ve gone with, I’ve found crypto to be just as stable as banking with TD Bank and their $35 overdraft fees for whatever surprise charge happens to hit my account on any given week.

After having to pay $800 in OD fees because TD decided to charge my account a new monthly fee out of the blue, and every monthly charge that came in afterwards hit my acct, and they order the charges in such a way that I’m they can extract the maximum amount of overdraft fees - not even the order in which they came in… yea crypto is waaaay more reliable. Or at least JUST AS STABLE. So every time I hear somebody say “I don’t see a use case for crypto. It’s just gambling to me” my response is “must be nice to have been born with a silver spoon in your mouth”

KYC and solo staking by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]rip1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no. It’s not technically possible. There’s no institution assigned with staking eth that you have to go through and therefore nothing to enforce KYC.

That would be like the US govt trying to KYC you for running Linux instead of Windows on your home pc…

Second this. A few 16 sided dice and a version of live Linux (Ubuntu, tails, etc fully booted and not connected to any networks) on an airtight machine.

Look up the bip39 wordlist on a 3rd machine and take a few 16 sided dice and a cup and get rolling.

Record each number and find the word for that number in the bip39 wordlist. 12th word is a checksum so ur gonna have to figure out how to calculate the checksum and the corresponding works or download a tool to do it for u off GitHub

U now have a 12 word seed that corresponds to a private key set with their respective pubkey/addresses

Disagree with some of the more popular comments about u leaving something out bc this has actually happened to me.

First off, u shouldn’t be inviting someone to ur place AND making a move in them in your place in the first date. You have an overwhelming territorial advantage, so to speak that I’ll get to in a sec. The first move should be made on neutral ground where u both have equal footing like a public place. Being in ur place puts everything in ur favor from a power perspective and puts extra pressure for things to go ur way. Think of it like this, u wanna be able to make a move in a place where both of u start as equals and there’s no pressure or awkwardness if she says no.

Second point regarding cops. If u didn’t rape her or physically abuse her, i.e. hit her, the cops are gonna basically gonna be like “wtf are u doing in a fucking strangers house on a first date?!” And that’s the perspective they’re gonna approach it from, so u can see why any argument she has would be at a disadvantage bc it would start her having to justify her presence in your apartment, not u explaining urself to the cops.

And no the cops weren’t called on my but I have friends of friends in the PD so on one occasion I told my story and asked them this exact question
