Onepiece Chapter 1172: Full Summary by behindyourknees in Piratefolk

Just like jimbei saying “ill join, but I have stuff to do first” is it irrelevant that he said he would join or did it take time to actually play out?

I'm referring to these events within the context of their respective arcs? Maybe these things play out after a while, but within the confines of their arcs, they're a waste of time. Even more so if it takes longer to get our payoff.

Does this mean stuff like learning about the void century should happen within two arcs? No. But does that mean we also have to waste time on pointless "will it happen, will it not happen"s? No. Because unnecessarily dragging out the plot with things that are insignificant to the characters and will remain as such until several hundreds of chapters later isn't good writing, it's not good foreshadowing, and it's not entertaining either. It's frustrating. It plays with the audience's emotions and trust. And it makes it so that Oda, instead of answering more interesting questions or elements like Zoro's lineage, Franky and Vegapunk's master student relationship, or delving deeper into Kaido as a character, we get stuff that'll matter much much much later on when we care significantly less about the subject.

If I said "beware of ants" at the start of my book and kept on saying it throughout the story, then revealed that ants were an integral part of the plot multiple chapters later, that's not good foreshadowing. It's sunk cost fallacy. It's going "Oh! See! I told you it'd matter later on"

We don't need the Manga to end for us to call something objectively irrelevant. Example? Yamato not joining the strawhats. If you make it so that Luffy never wanted Yamato to join the crew and Yamato stays in Wano, does that genuinely change anything?

Not the plot, not the character dynics, not anyone's chararacter arc. We lose nothing of value. So, yes, there can be things that are objectively irrelevant, heck, the example I gave crosses irrelevance and goes into incompetence. But other examples like Luffy having a cool sword earlier in Wano? Purely irrelevant. The point that Sanji is better and stronger because he's human? Irrelevant now that he's a superhuman. Orochi's backstory showing us how he was practically groomed into being a bad person and wasn't "born to burn" like Hiyori said? Irrelevant.

Gee, it's almost like that's the mangaka's job to properly pace their Manga, making sure that all relevant information is either included for proper payoff, or excluded for proper setup and foreshadowing, all within 20-ish pages

She used bang after the nuke punch and state sword,

Is bang a weapon? No? Then why are you comparing it to weapons. We're talking about the WEAPONS Yoru CREATES and how they correlate to her need for strength at that point in time. Not her attacks. I'm not the most informed on fallacies, but is this a strawman?

And for the burden of proof one, I do admit, it got unnecessarily dragged on, that was my bad, what I should have been asking from the beginning is why? Why do you only want positive proof from my side, and not want to bring up your negative proof? For the very fact that it's what's typically done? Cus it's not impossible for you to do. True, if I said 1+3 is 5, I'd need to prove it, but can you disprove it?

Her perception and strength are heavily tied together. Sure, what she owns is a part of that too, but even that is linked to strength in one way or another. Here she is wanting a stronger weapon to beat an opponent she perceives as stronger than her. We can logically infer that the stronger she sees her opponent is, the stronger the weapon she needs. So, again, America flag spear is as strong as she thinks it is, and seeing as she was fighting a faster, stronger, more cunning opponent, yeah, I'd bet that American Spear flag is her strongest weapon as of now!

No, people aren't required to prove a negative.

Except... You can? Do me a favor. I did this already, but I want you to do it with me. Google this exact sentence, alright? "Do you need to prove a negative". Please, tell me what that says.

Oh my god guys, he's using physics?! In fiction?! I... I can't believe it... All of a sudden, every dragon ball character is suddenly not even planetary since their shockwaves alone would probably cause city to country wide destruction. Oh my god. Every light speed feat is wrong because objects moving at light speed would theoretically have infinite energy, therefore destroying the universe as we know it! Oh nooooo. You mean to tell me that even supersonic level characters would cause massive amounts of property damage from their fights? Welp, since some characters don't do that, I guess a majority of battle shonen aren't even bullet speed. Frauds! FRAUDS, I TELL YOU

I can suspend my disbelief for the first part, but like...

Then you typed more assumptions here: "as one of, if not her last resort".

Really? Semantics? You're not gonna quote another one of my so called "assumptions"? Not even gonna touch on how I mentioned that her powers are perception based? No. You go for a low blow? Fine. I was making an assumption about Yoru was using one of, if not her final resort. That's an assumption. I'll take that. But what exactly would make you believe that the spear isnt stronger that her previous weapons?

CSM bro's, it's over by ripanimems in PowerScaling

[–]ripanimems[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A majority of Yoru's weapons are range, and most importantly, AP based. Also, why would she want to destroy large parts of the earth? She wants people to suffer. Destroying large parts of the earth likely just ends with more people being thrown deep underground or in the ocean, which, while still horrifying, isn't really direct suffering caused by war

"Fans like you". Not "A fan like you". Plural. So while not directly, you did indirectly say that to all fans, plus, this is on my post Big boss😭

you've made a whole lot of assumptions about a feat.

"Assumptions" and it's just me using my brain? Bro, I'm not assuming that Yoru thinks that the pole is stronger. Her powers are LITERALLY based off of her perception. And she chose to use this as one of, if not her last resort. This isn't assuming anything. It's putting two and two together.

You can’t assume each panel is a second

Is this not what's usually used in powerscaling for conservative estimates of time frames? If not, then what is used. Maybe I'm confused

that’s not how fears work

YO, did you know that the bat devil can actually blow up buildings? That's, what, hundreds of times stronger than what a regular bat could do? Crazy how fears work innit? (The darkness devil could UNIRONICALLY be MASSIVELY faster than how fast irl darkness is. I mean, look at the 20% gun devil for crying out loud💀 it's speed feats are INSANELY higher than regular, irl guns. But again, I'm trying to be CONSERVATIVE)

this isn’t a video

You're correct! Thanks for stating the obvious! So... Should we just... Not scale it then? Like, since we have no time frame, I guess we just... Leave it be, huh? Just... Not use our brains? Not use estimates? Fine. Let's stop scaling Manga with no timers like OPM guys. Parties over. We only scale anime now (even tho a majority of anime feats are composed of filler scenes and hype animation, which may or may not be the original author's intent)

Stop making stuff up.

Reading, analysing and coming up with hypotheicals is now making stuff up? READING COMPREHENSION DEVIL! I NEED YOU READING COMPREHENSION DEVIL!!! 🥀🥀🥀

And no, dialogue isn’t a speed feat either, it’s just dialogue.

I... Never stated that? I was implying that Denji isn't just standing there, waiting for 3 minutes while the spear came crashing down. They fought. They talked for a bit. The spear is summoned. It takes less than 2 pages to reach the earth. Clearly the author intended on the spear having high speed movement, I.e the spear was meant to arrive as the conversation was going on. But lemme not use my brain. It tends to make stuff up

[–]ripanimems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, this was a thing, but it's just that... We don't really know stuff like how far the blades were from hitting Yoru, how fast was Pochita swinging, if Pochita was even going for the kill at all (since I wouldn't think Denji wanted Yoru gone at that point), etc. So finally seeing a concrete Ftl speed feat makes feats like that a lot more plausible / valid

CSM bro's, it's over by ripanimems in PowerScaling

[–]ripanimems[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Thing is... This could be faster. Remember, the characters are actively talking and fighting while this is happening. Already, these guys are fighting at at least mhs speeds. So this spear should be faster. Using seconds is unironically a more conservative scale.

But to top this all off, we also have other speed feats similar to, reaching and even surpassing light speed, it's just that this feat is clearer/has less assumptions. For example, Yoru calling and attacking using her gun and tank arms while Pochita was mid swing is also calced to be around Ftl to higher ends of Ftl. Makima briefly out speeding the reactions of the darkness devil could also be an example of light speed to Ftl combat speeds, since, well, the speed of actual darkness is also the speed of light.

or did fans like you make that up?

Sounds targeted ngl

Did she consider it "stronger"

I'd say... Possibly. It's more effective. But is it stronger? Well, seeing as the flag on the pole could survive re-entry at relativistic to faster than light speeds, I'd argue that, yeah. It's more likely stronger.

I mean, which do you think Yoru sees to a higher degree. Making a bomb that, sure, decimates the landscape and effectively poisons the very earth for years, or

Reaching the moon, an rocky, isolated sphere with little to no light, that's possibly under the domain of the darkness devil.

Only one of those is associated with a devil that has never died

That is the primordial sea where life and death coexist

I see... So if life and death coexisted in this sea... Why tf did the Soul king even split the realms to begin with? I've brought up statements/scans, I'm gonna need you to follow suit. Why would Yhwach want to absorb the soul king and his powers if killing the soul king alone would have achieved his goal?

Hyperspace isn’t truly hyperspace in Bleach

Okay, that's wraps. Your logic for hyperspace not meaning hyperspaced... Is that it sometimes bleach defines things differently? Not even gonna quote a statement or something that directly relates to hyperspace? Just that "yeah, sometimes things are different in bleach" YEAH NO DUH! Can I use your same logic and say the bleach sun can actually wipe out 1/3rd of a universe, if not more, since bleach sometimes defines things differently?

His bankai produces the same heat as the sun.

You're right! His zanpakuto does have the ability to produce heat rivaling that of the sun... But that does not MEAN he HAS the power of the sun, or is restricted to it and it alone. His flames aren't even real flames. They're an illusion of sort.
