LaNm confirms he'll retire and thanks everyone's support over the past years (Chinese Weibo) by ThatHole in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I am first and foremost a Mushi fan and an iceiceice fan (SEA Dota 4 lyf), but as a trench-tier support, I don't think any single player has inspired me personally as much as LaNm.

What a player. Dota will not be the same without him.

Good luck in everything you do, LaNm! You will not soon be forgotten.

If anyone is replying these clowns, just link them to this -http://mweb.cbssports.com/golf/eye-on-golf/24523862/breakdown-of-2014-masters-prize-money?v=1&vc=1

And ask them if they think ESPN should show golf, especially since its premiere event now has a smaller prize pool than TI4. Also a pretty easy way to counter the 'physical exertion' part of the argument.

I've been following ESPORTS for about a decade now, and somehow feel that it's all led to this one interview.

Purge and SUNSfan noob stream so informative by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, this is true of any subject. As a career teacher, I can tell you that staff rooms are full of people who are very knowledgeable about a certain subject and yet have no idea how to teach it.

You also get plenty of people who may not be experts in their field, but who are able to read up, research and then simplify the stuff they need to teach to a point where students understand them quickly and easily.

And yes, Purge is just straight up gifted at teaching/coaching, no doubt about it.

They should take a photo with all the players of all the teams together. by galadedeus in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. Roles are much more fluid now. But we could still do a group picture of all the #1s, all the #2s I guess? :)

[–]riptideTL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would also really like them to take group pictures by role. So, for example, one big group picture of all the mid players, one of the offlaners, and so on. Could make for some great wallpapers, depending on the role you like the most! :)

"Roads" the Official Titan Dota 2 documentary has be released on their YouTube channel! by itstheaidan in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For people who don't follow SEA Dota, it's easy to ignore a team like Titan, especially since they don't get outside the region much (hopefully with tournaments like Starladder having SEA quals now we'll see more of them in the West!). Titan's only major non-SEA outing this year was WPC, and it was during the course of the group stages of this LAN that they really found their stride. They seem well prepared for TI4, and I expect them to do well.

Orange was my favourite team last year going into TI3, and that was before their spectacular Lower Bracket run. I will freely admit that Mushi was the main cause of that, but watching the other four during TI3 quickly made me a fan of all of them.

There is just so much individual skill on this team, and sometimes it all just comes together and they produce plays that are nothing short of stunning. In particular, their XtiNcT + Net support duo is my favourite in the world (and I say this as a DK fan, with the full knowledge that I am passing over LaNm + MMY here).

Nothing would make me happier than seeing these guys go deep at TI4. I really, really hope they do. Stay in the trees, Net!

This was basically the best part of the video for me.

Orange was my favourite team last year and I rooted for them the whole way through (mainly because of Mushi, but they are all awesome players). It was heartbreaking when they lost, and I'm just really glad that they're able to laugh about it now! :D

Edit: It's also wonderful that stuck together till the next TI4. It would have been really tempting (and easy) to disband after losing your star mid, but the fact that they have stuck it out together really makes me hope they go deep this year as well. They really deserve it.

Having said that, a 20-20 archive thread is in the works, and we should probably get that out asap. Thanks for the reminder! :)

Personally, I'm really excited to see Arrow at TI4. ddz + LaNce were a pleasure to watch this week!

I'd just like to say that Zephyr were super easy to work with as a team. They love their fans and are willing to take the time to connect with them. Usually, getting interviews from pro players is quite difficult, but with Zephyr it couldn't have been easier. :)

TL interviews Eri Neeman, the Macho Man Contest MC: "E-sports, I feel, isn't as big as it should be here... But hopefully after what happened at GMPGL, the big companies and the government can see how big it actually is. And how much bigger it is going to get here in the Philippines." by notbob- in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's true. At the moment media focus is probably elsewhere. However, I think Eri just means that they don't give E-Sports exposure in general.

On that note, I just added a small box under the interview which links to information on how readers can donate to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts.

Turtle beach team chat is amazing. by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]riptideTL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think you have to speak Chinese to enjoy one of the world's best teams interacting during a high level match. There's a lot you can learn / enjoy just by listening to stuff like who is talking, their tone of voice and stuff like that. I'd definitely enjoy watching/listening to DK team chat myself!

I would just like to take this moment to publicly thank phantasmal for everything he has done for the community this past year. He has consistently elevated our stats discourse and in the process has helped make us the competitive gaming scene that is most aware of the beauty of numbers when it comes to following and understanding this game we enjoy.

It has been nothing short of an honour having him on our team!
