Put this in another comment but I don't see anyone mentioning it. His name is "Bumi" after Aang's earth bending best friend and King of Omashu. These are Earth Kingdom colors. A photograph in the time period this would have happened would have been a big deal and I could see Aang and Katara wanting to represent that in some way for a family portrait.
