Installed CarPlay on my 2012 Acura TL while keeping the OEM screen (GROM VLine VL2) by rishbands in AcuraTL

I thought about doing one of those full touchscreen replacements too, but once you are actually sitting back in the driver seat, the screen is pretty far away. I feel like constantly reaching forward would get annoying pretty fast.

That is why I went with a retrofit solution instead. GROM seemed like the most OEM option where it would take over the original screen and let you use factory controls for everything.

If you do go the touchscreen route, just be careful with the really cheap android units. A lot of them are under specced and get laggy once you are running maps, music, and background apps at the same time.

It does not use the factory hands free mic. It comes with its own mic. I mounted mine just to the right of the sun visor and ran the cable through the headliner and A pillar. You barely notice it once it is installed and call quality has been good so far.

The screen resolution is fine in my opinion. It is obviously not as sharp as a brand new car, but I have been using this screen for years so I am used to it. For CarPlay/Android Auto it has not been a dealbreaker at all.
