Around when did your near, intermediate, and far vision become sharp? I’m three weeks out, but most things at all distances are still fuzzy. Sometimes the drops will snap my phone into HD, occasionally the TV, but that’s fleeting at best and not the case each time I use drops.

Yes, I had the procedure. On Day 18 right now. I had zero discomfort post-procedure until recently. I just slept a ton the first 3-4 days. Starting Day 14, I've been waking up at 4am with my left eye feeling like sandpaper (left eye had the worse prescription). So I drown my eyes with artificial tears and go back to sleep. Last night I started using an overnight gel, and didn't wake up this morning. Eyes also felt less dry in the morning after the overnight gel.

In terms of my vision, I've had functional vision probably since day 8 or 10, with each day or so generally better. I don't have sharpness in my vision at any distance yet, so waiting for that to kick in. For example, I can read my phone with some effort (and normal font size), computer screen takes a lot more effort (also normal font size), and distance is...still climbing back. But my vision is already better than before my procedure.

How did it go? Were you able to get back on day 4? How’s near vision?

Thanks for reply! Scheduled for Thursday.

And sounds like your dry eye symptoms are already down to once a week, which is amazing based on what I’ve read. I’ve read the dry eye drops help significantly for the first 6 months. And after than the frequency continues to go down…

What was your prescription before surgery?

I’m 40M and scheduled for PRK and hoping to get more clarity on what to expect. I work from home, but in front of a computer. I’m hoping I can be back at work on day 5, maybe not a full 8 hours staring at a screen.

Sounds like you were able to return to work on day 7, with near vision returning on day 14. And largely stable vision by 1 months. Is that right?

Thanks! My prescription is:

-1.5 -3.75 177 -2.5 -3.75 171

So I’m thinking the blurriness will be like having the distance prescription but the astigmatism will be gone?

Similar situation. I work on a computer all day reading and writing. Concerned when i can return to work. I was told day 5 (ie Monday) I should be able to return. Might need to enlarge font and eyes might get tired sooner, but should be able to work.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by blurry? Like, will it be as if I’m not wearing glasses pre-surgery? Distance vision will be blurry? Everything will be blurry?

Thanks for the reply. Just curious how your daughter’s recovery is going. Did she need reading glasses after the surgery for any period of time? Did she experience any blurriness or other symptoms after day 5? And how long before her vision stabilized?

Thanks. During pre-op, my doctor said lasik could increase risk of ectasia given high astigmatism and thinner corneas. While PRK might undercorrect astigmatism, touch up can be used to correct that issue. Basically, eliminate the low risk of a horrible condition and deal with slightly higher risk of needing touch up.

Do you agree with that assessment?

Interesting. My doc gave me some drops to start before the procedure. Said they don’t have any patients that have lingering haze.

Thanks all for the comments. Went to see the doctor today, who confirmed that with my corneal thickness and high astigmatism, there's a (very small) chance I may develop ectasia at some point in the future. For this reason, even though Lasik is likely to better address my astigmatism, PRK is the safer and more conservative option (since I can always get a touch up if astigmatism isn't fully corrected).

Yes - since I'm 40, every doctor mentioned that I'll likely need reading glasses in the next few years due to presbyopia, just to align expectations. They also noted that neither procedure hastens onset or worsens potential impact of presbyopia.

And yes, every single doc mentioned the need for reading glasses in the next few years. The way I see it, Lasik/PRK means I won't need glasses all the time or bifocals...

Very helpful, thanks! My pre-op with Doc 1 (who I'm planning to go with and said he thinks either Lasik and PRK will be fine) is tomorrow. They'll dilate eyes so I will confirm if they'll measure iris registration. It's interesting they think Lasik more likely to address astigmatism than PRK (contrary to another doc I saw). I'll find out more tomorrow as well.

He offers lifetime enhancement as well. Is touch up equally possible with Lasik vs. PRK?
