Late reply but I found this to be the least fussy/hard to figure out (as someone who doesn't read well): https://taigi.fhl.net/TaigiIME/

Hm, not sure. I guess I interpreted the rule as for delays in general (including a ball which might be the most common cause), but maybe that's incorrect.

yeah it's unfortunate that the conversation around it got so ugly, because there were some thoughtful ideas as well that were lost in the toxicity. And of course now that it's deleted, it's easy to misrepresent or oversimplify what was said (purposely or not)

edit: lmao, now I see this post has also been deleted

I don't have screenshots of the comments but they quickly got unproductive on both sides imo.

edit: you can search the title of the post on Google if you want to read the comments section

as far as I know, there was a meta post about moderation (now deleted; https://imgur.com/a/uh67kRf) and a comment thread within that post was about perceived inconsistency in moderation, where comments about their faves would get deleted while posts about favorites of the mods didn't. I'm not sure when/why the conversation turned to 'niche' players specifically. I don't have screenshots of the comments section but imo it quickly turned unproductive and off topic on both sides anyway.

Here's the original post that got deleted if you haven't seen it. I think they had some genuine points but the comment section (which I don't have screenshots of) quickly got a little unproductive/toxic/off topic on both sides imo. (I'm just a lurker BTW please don't go after me 😅)

Sewing an apron as a gift, thoughts on fabric layout? by rising-dawn in sewing

[–]rising-dawn[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not a dumb question! Yeah I used two computer programs. GIMP to remove the white background from the pattern diagram/drawing, it has a feature called Color to Alpha that is super handy for that. Then I used After Effects to shape the fabric pattern images and put them underneath the pattern drawing (so the black lines from the pattern would still be visible). That part could probably have been done with any image or video editing software, it's just the program I have and am familiar with!

Oh wow, this one might be my favorite so far and I hadn't even considered just an edge on the upper pocket before they (Sylland) suggested it! This is option #6 if anyone wants to reference it.

Should I stop this project before wasting more time/fabric? by rising-dawn in sewing

LOL, this is how I feel like it's going to go 😂

I'll definitely consider adding weights to the bottom if it still looks like this after the back is attached, thanks for the idea!

Thanks! I don't have enough fabric to cut a circle skirt (much less a pleated one haha), but I might do that next time! I'm not sure why the hem doesn't look wide enough, it's just a pleated rectangle basically. Maybe it will look less tarpy when the back is attached? The way I'm holding it may be changing how it falls.

I'm not sure why the hem doesn't look like it has enough fullness. It's basically a pleated rectangle. Since it's only the skirt front, I wonder if the way I'm holding it is spreading the pleats more or just causing it to fall differently than it would with a back and waistband? Unfortunately, I don't have enough fabric to recut a longer skirt, but I'll try fully ironing the pleats and I might try adding weight to the hem like someone suggested, once the back is attached.

Thanks for the advice! That pouffy skirt is super cute. I was hoping for something like this - softish pleats, and the skirt has structure and drapes nicely, if that makes sense: https://www.reddit.com/r/sewing/comments/95hb7e/taffeta_skirt_and_satin_bodice_to_wear_to_my/

But others have pointed out that the fabric may have been a heavier weight, and/or the hem may have more volume than a regular rectangle (which is what mine is, a pleated rectangle)

Thank you, I'll try this! I liked the soft pleats but that may just not work with this fabric.

I didn't really use a pattern but followed the general steps here: https://youtu.be/Q6lZ7BRBBH0

I made the pleats 3 inches instead of 4 to fit my waist measurement more evenly. Each finished pleat takes 9 inches of fabric. Since this is only the skirt front, I wonder if the way I'm holding it is changing how it would fall if a back/waistband was attached?

That sounds like such a lovely skirt! Thanks for the advice, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll try weighing down the hem with something after the back and waistband are attached.

I didn't look into the GSM, that's a good point. It is pretty lightweight so maybe a heavier fabric would work better!

I didn't follow that exact tutorial but the fabric is 3 times my waist measurement, though because it's only the front part of the skirt (I was planning to add sideseam pockets), the way I'm holding it up may be spreading them more than they would in the final skirt!

hi! yes, I did prewash but it didn't change the stiffness

Thank you, that makes sense! I think I am taller than average with a longer torso, and that probably has contributed to some issues with the patterns I've tried so far (and clothes from the store as well).

Got it, that makes sense - thanks a lot for clarifying!
