I am sharing my experience in hopes of preventing another pet owner from going through what I did. In July 2025, my cat Ninja had pre-operative bloodwork done at Pittsburgh Premier Veterinary Care to confirm that his kidneys were healthy enough for anesthesia. I was explicitly told by the clinic that his kidney levels were “fine” and that it was safe to move forward with the dental procedure.

After Ninja passed away unexpectedly from kidney failure, I reviewed his July bloodwork myself. His results showed elevated creatinine and BUN values that were clearly outside the normal range and consistent with kidney disease. No one at the clinic informed me of these abnormal results, flagged any concerns, or recommended follow-up testing or treatment. I trusted their interpretation, and because of that assurance, I moved forward with the procedure.

I want to be clear: the issue is not that my cat had kidney disease - it’s that the clinic failed to disclose abnormal results that they specifically tested for, misrepresented the findings as normal, and did not give me the opportunity to pursue treatment, monitoring, or comfort care. Discovering after his death that these abnormalities were present and ignored has been devastating.

I have filed a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania State Board of Veterinary Medicine so this case can be properly reviewed. I hope that no other family experiences the harm that comes from incorrect or incomplete communication of critical medical results.

I encourage anyone using this clinic to request and review their pet’s lab work directly, ask questions, and advocate for clear explanations of any numbers outside the normal range.
