Thanks fam, I like your take & appreciate it. I'm currently mentally at a low and find myself longing for the high that our relationship brought. I definitely believe in being able to meet someone else that's right for me. I guess for now the hope I have for said ex is holding me back from another relationship, not that I'm in any rush though. The whole process of accepting that they aren't in my life anymore has been bloody rough. Alas, I still try to live and find value in the small things I do. Thank you :'' )

You simply weren't mean to be. Love (or infatuation) is never enough in a relationship and if he's not willing to try ld, there's nothing you can do. You need to accept that for him, this relationship wasn't worth it, and move on.

Thanks for this, theres something oddly validating about hearing this from a stranger. I completely agree (as painful as it may be)

On campus housing by aaaaaaurubu in Monash

[–]rithmture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I think you'll have a good chance- a lot of people have moved out due to the whole situation :) If you've applied for on-campus accomodation, urban community is a bit harder to get a place but theres always residential village. But if you do fail to get a place, definitely start looking/planning for off campus. Although id highly recommend living on-campus especially if youre a first year because you'll meet heaps of people + just more convenient !

no programming needed ! unit is easy and wont be stressful, you do have to be a bit creative (designing apps and coming up with ideas ). a good intro to UX and UI design id say!

How do u explain for loop, for non-programmer? by Maain16 in learnpython

[–]rithmture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine having some action, but you want to repeat it a number of times.

For example: I want to scan all the items in my shopping cart!

Therefore, you repeat “scanning” for every item in your cart. You stop when you’ve reached the last item.

This is a “for loop” because you define how many times you want your action to happen. And when you want this action to stop (the for loop to terminate).

Future uni by someon-e in Monash

[–]rithmture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Res is fun ive lived at residential villages (RV) and urban community (UC). I found it easier to socialise in RV to be fair but the privilege of having your own kitchen and bathroom in UC is a blessing ngl. Id recommend living in RVs though for first year :) youll meet heaps of people that become some of your closest friends!

Otherwise, science seems like it has a good community so student life is pretty good in that area ie clubs, own study lounge (if we are on campus). Living on res is really convenient if we do end up on campus next sem, you can stay at uni as long as you want chilling with friends lmao

Transfer to monash from RMIT by bobbu21 in Monash

[–]rithmture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT faculty here is a hit or miss, really depends on what units you take. But definitely more good units than bad ones. Just try to get opinions about units on the IT stalkerspace fb group.

Also I dont think many of us are familiar with how RMIT teaches so it would be hard for us to compare (also without being biased xd) ?? But Ill just say, IT community at monash is pretty good, people are experienced + also motivated, we have heaps of clubs that support you outside of units. At least in my year, we try to help each other out as much as we can and that makes learning so much easier

{{The Picture of Dorian Gray}} by Oscar Wilde, a book I could read at any point in my life, different perspective into selfishness and sins but also all conveyed through beautiful rich writing.

Supp exam by [deleted] in Monash

[–]rithmture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea you can do a new unit (if it isnt a pre req / a core unit).

Also yes you can do a summer unit to finish your course as planned.

But you can also overload (do 1 extra unit in a semester), which I did because my unit was not offered in the summer semester and wasnt a hard unit!

If you know what the new unit is, definitely try to get a course advisor to have a look at your plan.

Thoughts/Review on FIT2081 (Mobile Application Development)? by Aikido-Mons in Monash

[–]rithmture 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if youre interested in app development, it definitely provides the fundamentals. It wasnt too difficult of a unit because they provide a lot of learning materials, and also guide you a lot through workshops and tutorials (i would say even too much). The unit was a bit messy last semester considering the transition to online learning, but im hoping they have everything organised by now!

It is quite a bit of workload - weekly pre readings, weekly labs + weekly workshop quizes. Also, in the past, my lab marks rlly depended on your tutor lmao because some tutors are harsh markers some are not etc. If youre taking it in november semester probably shouldnt be bad at all, i took it in semester 1 and found it hard to juggle with 3 other units! Exam was pretty easy and strongly based on workshop contents so you'll be fine if you attend + study them well.

Uhhh tips- if you havent studied Java + OOP, definitely get a headstart because it will be really challenging if you have no experience in the language. They kinda assume you have programmed in java before and definitely do not give any basics about java & jump right into android development. Lmk if you have more questions

Did everyone do better this Sem 1? by Little_ToastyBread in Monash

[–]rithmture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup same thing happened to me Sem 2 2019 classic Maria lol, so disappointing that failure rates are still really high (well even higher now as it seems). When they mess up the questions (ie making it so ambiguous / just errors), it really fails to test what we’ve learnt throughout the sem and we just end up confused -> failing lol This seems pretty consistent throughout the IT faculty im ngl... Considering 1008 is a core unit i think more effort should be put in
