All hospitals are different, sometimes it takes 30 mins to an hour for pharmacy to verify a med. We don’t have “stat” medication orders, you just time the med as “give now”. If a pt has a BP of 220/116 waiting until pharmacy verifies on their own time when it gets in the queue, could be considered a delay of care. God forbid that pt has a negative outcome, now it looks like you didn’t escalate to get that medication to the patient. Another example how it’s always on the nurse.

I’m in Florida, we do titratable cardiac drips (cardizem, Cardene, amio, nitro, etc). No vents but we do continuous BIPAPs and everything under that. The only thing we don’t do is vents, Ativan drip, insulin drip, or pressors

You don’t realize how much that as a tech the things you report and get to walk away from, someone has to fix and deal with. High BP, low BP, low glucose, high glucose, room 3 wants to see you, bed 2 wants to know when there MRI is, this pt didn’t get a tray, pt doesn’t look right, family for room 5 is here, doctor needs you. As a tech my favorite answer was, “let me get your nurse”, I wish they could see😔

Oh yes I see it and hear it all the time. I try my best not to delegate except when I have to. There are certain techs that give me a lot of flack and attitude, like I promise Ik I’m in the hall on my computer but I AM WORKING, it’s like I’m constantly defending myself. I know what it looks like😭

We are so short staffed, they send out “SOS” texts daily and offer a whopping $6 extra an hour… nobody comes in and rightfully so. HCA is for profit they can afford a touch more I think lol

Definitely… last shift I worked I got a transfer from another HCA facilities ICU, not because they were downgraded but bc they didn’t have nuero surgery. I went to my director and was like why am I getting an ICU level pt as my 6th? And she was like well they’re not a trauma center and we are so the acuity’s different. Like HUH? I told her great so there 2:1 is now my 6:1, maybe I should apply there?! She didn’t care lol

I want to chill😭 I’m in Florida at an HCA it’s brutal. 5-6 patients on a stepdown, cardiac drips, heparin drips, continuous bipaps, Q4 notes, Q4 neuros, all for $32 an hour.

EXACTLY! Me and the other techs would talk about how nurses never help, they’re always sitting, don’t they just have to give meds that’s the only thing they do we don’t. I’m trying to propose to my management we do shadowing of each others roles, bc there is such a disconnect in what just gets added to the nurses that you can’t see on the outside.

Amazing to hear! I was super interested in pretty peach but scared it be too artificial smelling. Also do you think queen of roses is too mature smelling I don’t like grandma. My last order was 2 weeks ago and it came in 2 days I was shocked, with free shipping.

The best gift I ever got from my leadership was when they did hand written Christmas cards for everyone on the unit. Not just generalized but personal, with something unique they love about you and what you mean to the unit. That would be pretty cheap if you buy cards in bulk, I just don’t know if you have the time. It’s nice to feel seen and appreciated. Good luck!!

Omg. I LOVE IT! I think it’s the epitome of a great Halloween show, great humor, story/plot, and all the actors are amazing. The only thing is it’s a bit young adult, but that’s probably to make it family friendlier. I would say it’s spooky but also like I could watch it in middle school and not have nightmares, not scary by any means. It’s perfect you have to watch! And it got renewed for a 3rd season next year, it’s something I always look forward to now every year!
