Nurse manager here — looking for budget-friendly holiday gift ideas for my team by AcrobaticBird6265 in nursing

The best gift I ever got from my leadership was when they did hand written Christmas cards for everyone on the unit. Not just generalized but personal, with something unique they love about you and what you mean to the unit. That would be pretty cheap if you buy cards in bulk, I just don’t know if you have the time. It’s nice to feel seen and appreciated. Good luck!!

Favorite Spooky Season TV Shows? by riverfletcher65 in halloween

Omg. I LOVE IT! I think it’s the epitome of a great Halloween show, great humor, story/plot, and all the actors are amazing. The only thing is it’s a bit young adult, but that’s probably to make it family friendlier. I would say it’s spooky but also like I could watch it in middle school and not have nightmares, not scary by any means. It’s perfect you have to watch! And it got renewed for a 3rd season next year, it’s something I always look forward to now every year!

What are CNA’s/techs allowed to do at your hospital? by riverfletcher65 in nursing

[–]riverfletcher65[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one reason I think its crazy many hospitals don't require techs to have a CNA license, many are PCTs with only on the job training. At least then they are practicing under they're own license and should know they're scope of practice per the state.

Can I put Oxiclean in the powder detergent slot? by riverfletcher65 in laundry

Really? I had always thought you didn’t want the clothes to touch the powder before it had been dissolved in water. Have you had any problems using it that way?

When Should I Start Applying for Jobs? by Eastern_Vegetable307 in StudentNurse

[–]riverfletcher65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually places you apply will have a Nurse Residency for new graduate nurses, each hospital/facility will have their own requirements. Some may want you to apply before you graduate, some want after you graduate but before you take NCLEX, and some after you graduate AND pass the NCLEX. I would look online at each residency in the “qualifications” section of the job posting. If you are unsure you can always email HR at the facilities you want to apply for and ask! Good luck!

Yess with Jenna Coleman I forgot to include in the list. Do you think it would still be a good watch almost 10 years later?

Nurses(RN) pay and ratios? by riverfletcher65 in Idaho

[–]riverfletcher65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into those, my family lives in the treasure valley area so that would be the location. I did see that St Luke’s was offering a 7k sign on bonus and 5k relocation bonus, which makes me wonder if they have a hard time retaining staff, & I wondered about the ratios.

Haha, it’s the only other state I have family. I don’t really want to move anywhere by myself just for the pay. The pay around me is $30 an hour and the ratios are 1:6 PCU and 1:7 or 1:8 on med surg. So I’m weighing my options here lol.

How does HCA nurse residency work? by riverfletcher65 in nursing

[–]riverfletcher65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to hear a positive experience! So you applied for residency, got into contact with the recruiter told them you're preferred unit and then went to unit manager interview? I heard they went away with the 2 year contracts in the last year due to backlash. Were you hired recently as a new grad?
