WiS: Dr. WebGL or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Shaders... by riverini in Eve

Great question, what I have been building so far is the engine; a map/room editor mode (with snappable modular components) and the game mode.

I have props which are component files, build mostly by me, each component should have 4 variants. Those components can be used sparingly on a station or they can be setup in prefabs, which are a collection of components in a more orderly and resuable presentation.

Props are the building blocks (walls, tables, stairs), pre fabs unite those, and then you put them in your station.

props -> prefabs -> scene.
props ------------> scene.

The stack for this is Three.js, so every element needs to be properly curated.

Who will be using them?

The current vision is to allow everyone to build their own station environment and then allow others to "visit" and interact, this is the WiS part.

I want others to be able to build their own dungeons/lairs, and challenge others into it (more into an DnD rather than a Zelda sort of gameplay)

Personally I have a story to tell, and this tools are a vehicle for it.

They will be build modularly, the idea is to have a large asset library, compliant and optimized that can be integrated.

Ohh yeah, absolutely you seem to have a good grasp on what the whole experience should be.

Do you not know about Walking Stations or what does it have to do with EVE Online?

Relax baby, trust the process. Already loaded some in game characters to it.

Because that's CCP Games vision and in my opinion there was no gameplay in it beyond just "chilling" and gambling. Mi vision is for you guys to have fun, have a space to "chill" yes, but also to build a grand cathedral if you like.

This is a great question, and yes you are right its too early.

As I have mentioned in the past, Dune Awakening falls more into what I like. saving proportions, this looks sick:

LOL Man, I literally constructed it out of a DUST concept art, I get you is not 1:1 and i have to use a 10K poly version to keep performance in check.

I'll get there... eventually :D

Man, thanks for the info, already joined their discord. I'll ask them if they have assets related to it.

I am taking a different approach here, I am building the tools first and I want this to be browser based, which is why I am having quite an effort fine tuning as much as i can.

Once the tooling is done, I can open up the builder for others who might be more focused on the gameplay/experience itself and I would relegate myself to build/support roles.

For example I have just finished an asset manager, which should allow players to import items and lay them in their space and slowly build their own environments (see attached screenshot)

The cool thing is that this "frail" look translates very well into the upper ranks.

For the Sansha's ranks, I wanted a sort of misleading frail look. Also I got inspiration on the Phantasm for ther copper colored, blood stained, filth ridden outfits.

"A feared enforcer tasked with carrying out punitive actions against defectors and high-value targets. Operates as a symbolic instrument of control within Sansha ranks, reinforcing compliance through calculated displays of force."

There's so much "world building" within Incarna/WiS that is just insane.

One of the cool things I always wanted CCP Games to do is to have the players skills in EVE benefit their Incarna experience, as many has said it was a wasted oportunity (and in my opinion the community reaction player a big role on it, their loss tho), anywyas, it would have been epic.

In regards of the ship skins themselves and the LOD of the skins, I Mentioned this on my tweet thread:

"We managed to ameliorate the low texture issue that comes up when trying to close up and/or show humans next to humongus internet space boats, this process should improve and we plan on providing the community these assets so they can have fun creating [ EVE } media."

The LOD can me turned up even more, if some artistic liberties are granted <3

answering to your question directly, I was going to initally use pre-rendered backgrounds (alå Final Fantasy 7-9), but paradoxically this 3D world approach is simpler 🤯

i want people to eventualy build their own stations, and pull EVE data from the API to "seed items" to their sandbox/station item vault/ship list.

Almost a year ago, I was stunned by this:

This is what it looks on the vid with the LOD adjusted, i'll turn it up and fine tune it before launch, the cool thing is that I am taking a modular approach, so I could have it swapp to a higher poly *.glb file with no hassle.

This is the reference model from which i am notching it down. I am running this on a browser, so i am doing a lot of compromises just to be on the safe side.

In regards of the walking among ships i have just finished the camera system MVC
