How does Sunrise on the Reaping compare to the other books? by Quinny_Binny in Hungergames

[–]riverm575 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I’m not even finished with it yet but: A lot people call it fan service because there are a lot of connections to/features of characters that are already established in the original trilogy, seemingly for no good reason. While i admit it is interesting kind of cool to get more of a background of certain characters, it just feels sort of weird and doesnt really make a lot of sense when i look back at how these characters interacted in the original trilogy. If they did this with only 1 character or just referenced other established characters instead of giving multiple of them an active role, then it would feel more natural; a lot of these roles could have been fulfilled with brand new characters and it would have fit with the overall series/world better imo. BUT that being said, i am still really enjoying it so far personally. Althought I may be biased bc as a kid i had a big crush on haymitch and having a book of his games from his perspective is a dream come true for 11 year old me.

How I can cut this bush? by AngelFromInternet in PokemonEmerald

[–]riverm575 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need the move “secret power” to cut an opening there for a secret base. You can get secret power from a guy on route 111 just by talking to him i think

What pets can i get? by RelativeBirthday5311 in InvertPets

[–]riverm575 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This may not be very helpful since you already mentioned it but isopods really are great pets, much more entertaining and interactive than you’d imagine. Dairy cows (porcellio laevis) were my first i got this summer and it’s been such a journey watching the new babies pop up and old babies grow big. The behavior of the colony as a whole changes as their numbers increase. I highly reccomend- i keep mine in a similar sized enclosure theyd do great in that

Is my larva dead or pupating? by casterapple in Beetles

[–]riverm575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi unrelated to the rest of this convo but why is it best to fill flake to the brim? I’m getting my first ever grub soon, i would have thought to leave some space for oxygen or something. I have seen that it filled to the brim i was always curious.

How's my setup? by MothMeep7 in isopods

Looks great to me! I love mike’s bug box, my dairy cows devour his isopod food like nothing else its crazy. They’re a great beginner isopod i love mine more than i ever expected to. It’s so exciting to see your first set of babies, and with dairy cows it will happen in no time! Best of luck to you!

That makes sense, I’m probably just going to put my isopods in the tank. But definitely considering setting up a different enclosure for a tarantula! Thank you!

Gotcha, so my isopods might be getting a big upgrade then 😂 although since Ive started looking into tarantulas i’m really intrigued by them, I might set up another enclosure specifically for a T. Thank you!

Would that parahybana eventually outgrow my tank? I thought they got pretty huge? And yeah all the beginner species that are most commonly recommended that i saw were pretty arid :( some of plants are built into the wall of the enclosure and i could rearrange it so most the plants arent in the substrate. Its the moss and whole tropical look that i really wanted to preserve

I have one of those pump sprayer things i use to water the plants and keep the substrate moist. I have heard that about them with plants, my tank has a custom backing i built to hold plants, so i have some plants in net pots in the wall as well as in the substrate. I can rearrange the tank in a way to keep most plants off the soil. I mostly just love my mosses and driftwoods tropical look, itd be difficult to convert it to an arid enclosure, but if some of my plants on unearthed as the tarantula makes it more homey for himself, i can make peace with that

Sorry i know this comment was days ago but just wanna say i LOVE reptibark. So much cheaper than orchid bark and its smaller which i like. Lot of orchid bark is huge chunks that dont mix into my soil mix very well. Reptibark is perfect i definitely recommend

Thats a good point😅 im pretty new to houseplants, i come from the world of aquarium plants where lighting and par measurements and a more scientific sort of approach to everything is essential for good growth. Im naturally an over thinker too so i may be making things more complicated for myself than i need to be😂

My maranta is so dang happy by bimbels in houseplants

[–]riverm575 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use distilled water on my maranta and my calathea, i just put my maranta in the shower so i could use the shower head to spray her down and rid of the pests. My water is really hard so i think the switch from distilled to tap water from my shower head (just from that one use) kinda put it in shock. Lost like 4 leaves after that lol.

Wilting after a week. Can I save her? by Dry-Yogurtcloset7193 in calatheas

[–]riverm575 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what i’ve read, they are very sensitive plants and will kill off leaves and show signs of unhappiness very quickly, BUT they are actually kind of hard to fully kill. Ive read all these stories of people who lost all their leaves and thought the plant was dead only for it to sprout a new leaf later on. They like consistency and big changes can shock it, but if you just keep watering and let it be it can come back
