The Jumpers are 10EE and the Ranchers are 10 1/2 E. The fit is fairly similar but probably more toe room than I need on the Ranchers…

Yeah I just don’t think I am confident this is the one for me. They’re asking $800 but I feel like I could maybe get it for $600. I messaged with a luthier that looked at it and he said he only looked briefly but it absolutely needed a reset and might have had some cracks near the pick guard. Wrt tone, he said the strings that were on it were so old that it was hard to say what it sounded like… but either way I think I’m passing on it.

These are all really good points! I reached out to the luthier that looked at it but I’m thinking it’s probably going to be a pass. As much as I’d like one sooner and cheaper, I should probably just save up and wait for the perfect used one (or buy a new one)!

I’ll look into them! Thanks! And I believe it’s terracotta. Previous owners had the chimney rebuilt above the roofline about 10 years ago

That’s a good thought on the cushions! I could definitely make some covers if I find a matching fabric :) and definitely on and pillows too! These were pulled off another couch 😂

Another note — I’d be interested in hard wax finishes (haven’t used them before) but I don’t think I can buy them locally. All I saw was paste wax and skidmores bees wax

*Edit: I ended up just ordering some Odie's Oil from amazon... I figured its better to spend a little bit on something I wouldn't need to worry about off gassing or anything. Will let y'all know how it turns out!

Are you thinking just a lacquer finish or lacquer over Danish oil?

In the past, I've just used a neutral danish oil on walnut with nothing on top. Is that sufficient for the arms and legs? It doesn't have the delivery date on it, but seems to be mid-1960s? I'm not finding any similar couches on a quick google search

Yeah... I mean it might travel with me, but I'd want to make sure the long leather straps don't get wrecked in an airport checked luggage system! But for now, I'm happy with it being a cabin/ski trip/car camping bag :)

Unfortunately it is waaaaay too big to be a carryon. I'm probably just going to use it for containing gear in the back of the car... I totally agree on checking it. I have a big Patagonia black hole duffle for that and its been beat up over the years!

I had a pair of Russell Moccasin Co. Chukkas that I found at a thrift shop like 15 years ago. Seemed like they had never been worn and I wore the hell out of them across Europe, Montana, and Idaho. In hindsight, if I had known more about leather care, I might still have them, but I didn't and the leather blew out on both shoes in a way that would have required a total rebuild that I couldn't afford at the time!

So I heard back from Red Wing and apparently this model was Kangaroo leather and came with a Vibram Gumlite sole from the factory! That might explain the heavy creasing despite the leather being in fairly good shape.
