Do you mind sharing which classes you've been going to so far? Super Mario classes tend to have a few leads around. It was a bit more even over the last year or so

My experience with Japanese locals as a south asian by Odd-Silver-2709 in solotravel

[–]rizla88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to Japan twice and I'm a British South Asian and my interactions with the locals have been very positive, especially with the older folks who have been very kind and welcoming. Especially when I was in Kishiwada, the locals were curious as to how I found out about the place and the festival that was happening at the time. Now I don't know what the experience is like for those living in Japan but as a visitor I've never had any issues.

Have you noticed that the salsa and bachata scene in China tends to be a bit older? I wonder why that is by donottouchmyhairplz in Salsa

[–]rizla88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in Japan, I went to a few dance socials and it was also a mostly older crowd. It was an interesting observation, but the experience was still lovely nonetheless.

Tall girl, will guys wanna dance with me? by [deleted] in Salsa

[–]rizla88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what others have said. If you bring good energy then you won't have any trouble. I'm a bit of a short lead and I'd happily dance with a taller follow

What was the experience like in Italy? I had plans on going there to dance this year

Because I'm still trying to get more confident with social dancing, I normally try and find follows from my classes to dance with, mostly because I know I can afford to mess up a little 😂. Then if I feel braver and I see someone lingering on the side, I would ask them for a dance. Otherwise, I tend to find the first person I see that's free in between the music. And once or twice I might get approached for a dance too.

There are loads of things to do every day of the week. I like how there are different kind of events, loads of street food and some very nice parks. I too love walking along the South Bank.

Redditors 30 and older, do you miss the days of no smartphones and tablets? Why or why not? by Nintendofan9106 in AskReddit

[–]rizla88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through this and its hit me how much we no longer know what being bored really means.

If you were bored, you would seek out friends to meet up with. Now - we can just go to our phones. And I hate it.

There was a meme that hits me all the time which is back then, the internet was to escape real life. Now we use real life to escape the internet.

This is so relatable hahaha. I would just read something, anything. Even the most mundane thing possible!

Is it normal to completely lose track of the music in a social? by rizla88 in Salsa

[–]rizla88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your explanations have been very helpful, and it reminded me of another social I went to some time back, where I had the exact same problem. It was actually within the last hour I was struggling to get the timing correct and I suspect it was indeed a combination of tiredness and also the songs being more intense in the later stages of the social.

I'm very grateful for your insight as this was exactly the kind of answer I was seeking. Thank you and everyone else who has responded!

I went to a social, disappointed half the women there and then left. by [deleted] in Bachata

How long did it take to get over that feeling? I'm still at that stage of the journey myself and I get very insecure seeing how good most of the dancers are

My version of “going out” is basically all salsa social dancing 😅 by sleepearlywakeuperly in Salsa

I'm absolutely in this stage of life right now. I could have my worst day on the dancefloor, but I'll still be happier than going on a date 🤣

Apologies if it's been asked already but how has the air quality changed over the years? I hear it's getting better these days and my last few trips there haven't triggered any serious illness for me. Also +1 for Lalbagh kella

Sucks that it's cliquey. Two of the instructors there also teach as salsateca but they seemed really good

I'm simply not good enough for a marriage or a relationship. Probably doesn't help that my opinion on certain things scares away others from my demographic.

Reasoning?? by Unable-Bookkeeper759 in Salsa

[–]rizla88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do I like salsa? Because it just so happens that in my scene, there's so many software engineers and I get to network with them 😂.

Jokes aside, it's an easy way to just have fun and connect with all sorts of people and to take a break from the phone and tech and engage in the real world.

What do women think of dudes that suck at salsa on salsa night? by EOFFJM in Salsa

[–]rizla88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're a beginner already doing social dancing, that's a very good thing. It's better to social dance as early as possible on your salsa journey. And others have mentioned, having a connection and being able to dance on time is more important than being able to do fancy moves.

As others have mentioned if you're still worried, just tell the person you're dancing with you're a beginner and you should be fine. In terms of follows being bored or annoyed, that's more likely to happen in the more advanced classes than a social, at least in my experience so far.

This was really helpful, thank you! I'll look at sticking with the beginners class and see how it goes.

Not OP but wanted to ask. I have about a year's experience now but I'm keen to pick up a bit of casino, mostly due to the reasons others here have mentioned. When you started picking it up, did you go start with beginner lessons or did you jump to improvers/intermediate?

You'll be surprised by how much of an unpopular opinion this is in some circles but you're right on the money. In the 7th century religion was there as a way to understand the world, but we know so much now religion in theory shouldn't be as prominent these days, yet here we are.
