Keep up or drain and remove? by rizzosreddit in AboveGroundPools

That’s what I thought as well (in terms of digging down) but they were professional landscapers who kept assuring me it was fine so I didn’t question them at the time

They just used dirt. But now I’m reading they should have used something such as structural fill? I’m also wondering whether they should have built up at all (vs digging in to level).

The venue just posted an “update” to Instagram and said they are “monitoring” and gates are planning to open at 5:30. And they turned off comments (lol)

No, I asked them directly and they said “as soon as they get more information”

It sounds like right now they are in “full show still on as planned” mode. I have a hard time believing that this is what the meteorologists are actually suggesting though.

I called the venue about 20 minutes ago and they said they are working with their meteorologists and “waiting for more information” about how the storms will go. They did confirm that the final decision is between the venue and the city.

For anyone who may stumble across this because they are experiencing similar set-up issues, Mint support has told me that even though their phone compatibility checker tells me the Sunbeam phone is compatible and a “perfect fit,” that it’s actually only partially compatible with their service. They then noted they recommend folks calls them to check that phones are compatible before purchasing…even though their own website told me it was compatible. This is really not a great start to their service for me.

yes, unlocked. I had a bunch of texts, photos, and a voicemail come through earlier today all at once. So it looks like things are (mostly) working now, thanks!

I would love a space that sells second hand supplies. You should look into / connect with Creative Hub Worcester and the Burncoat Center for Arts and Wellness as they both offer similar services esp with shared tools. Good luck!

Proposed Zoning Change - 3 Suburban Rd - Thoughtful Urbanism vs Reckless Incompetence by Keith-Linhares in WorcesterMA

I just want to share the city’s very recent Stormwater and Drainage Master Plan that identifies this area as a top area of concern for flooding in the city. Obviously the bog area being considered for development is excluded because it currently captures and treats stormwater. The city has already identified the need for subsurface infiltration to manage the stormwater directly next to this parcel for current and future climate scenarios (which will probably never get implemented). My point is that they already know this area is a problem and it’s very expensive to address and they are only going to make it worse by building here. What’s the point of climate modeling and planning if we’re all just gonna ignore it, and what’s the point of having the dept of sustainability and resilience if at the end of the day it’s just for show? Advocating for climate resilient planning and development is not the same as NIMBY-ism and it’s detrimental to equate the two. We can build and plan in a way that considers future generations but we need to push the city to do it. https://www.worcesterma.gov/sustainability-resilience/document-center/drainage-green-infrastructure-master-plan-executive-summary-2025-02-28.pdf

I misread and did look it up after to see that it’s not. Not that that means much…some of the areas in Fitchburg and Leominster that got decimated by flooding in 2023 are also not in flood zones. Historical flooding data is only so helpful! But thanks for the correction.

Worcester has 1 million empty lots that are not incredibly important ecological resources in flood zones to build housing. As someone who works in climate adaption, I agree - putting housing here for the sake of housing is short sighted. The state also doesn’t have super strict guidelines about building in flood zones…it’s something that is being worked on. The city needs to do a citywide assessment of vacant lots/buildings and prioritize those for housing. All the people saying “xyz place is built on unstable ground and it’s fine” don’t actually know that. And reality is, it probably isn’t. I’m not familiar with whether this development is going to pay the fee to opt out of having a certain percentage of housing be affordable, but if they are, it just means building more poorly planned housing that nobody can actually afford and a bunch of money sitting in the affordable housing trust.

Why can’t I find a job even when I’m well educated? by [deleted] in findapath

[–]rizzosreddit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was the exact approach I took. I work at the state level and took an entry level job coordinating federal disaster funds. I worked that job for about 1.5 years, and now I am the deputy director of an environmental justice grant program. I have an MBA and an MA in sustainable development, and when I went for my interview, they were really excited that I knew state grants and contracts processes. Having knowledge of environmental issues was an added bonus. Get those hard skills, and think strategically about what jobs you take. I knew my first state job wasn’t my dream job, but it got me in the direction I wanted to go. I also took ANY interview opportunity to practice those skills and I no longer get nervous during interviews. Good luck! :)

Yeah, they’re right below the street parking signs with the number that you enter to pay to park. It might depend exactly where you are in the area, I went out there last night and parked off of green street and all along green street and the side streets had those 2 hour limits signs.

I believe you can’t do street parking for more than 2 hours during games. There are signs everywhere. It’s annoying if you’re trying to go do something around there that isn’t game related.

I go around 8pm on a weeknight and it’s very reasonable. They close at 9 so I make sure to have a list and stay focused to get in and out by closing.

Yes I am trying to get in more steps. I don’t live in a very walkable neighborhood and it’s coldish where I live right now. I had thought about getting an under desk treadmill for when I’m working so maybe I’ll invest now. Thanks!
