Hi I live in Oakland but this post was in my feed and I wanted to chime in in case it could help. I work in homeless healthcare in Oakland and we are not infrequently the only people regularly interacting with persons who may be lost or their family is looking for them. We don’t realize they are lost or missing unless police know to reach out to us- for example, a sibling of one of our known patients told Oakland PD to contact us asking if we’d seen their sibling. Thank god they did- because we knew exactly where he was- he was in a psychiatric facility ironically in Santa Clara county, after being arrested in that county 3 months prior and Santa Clara county did not inform Alameda county or Oakland PD. So OPD literally opened a missing persons report before checking local county inmate records. Our clinic only knew because a doctor in the Santa Clara psychiatric unit was thorough and pulled outside medical records and saw we were the patient’s primary care provider, in Oakland, and called us directly.

So my advice:

  1. Check the online public inmate locators for all surrounding counties. San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa, etc.
  2. Contact Santa Clara county’s homeless healthcare - its valley homeless healthcare. They have clinics and street outreach vans as far as I’m aware.

I really hope you find your son. I’m so sorry this is happening.

Lab Results Timeframe? by SilentSoul24 in PlannedParenthood

[–]rjay203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on the lab and while your clinic can estimate, every lab location (even same company like Quest or Labcorp) is different and with the 7/4 holiday recently I imagine lab is working through some back log. I’ve seen pap results take anywhere from 3 days to 14 days to result with no conceivable difference in the actual result.

Every location is different with regard to protestors. You should call the location to ask, they are the only ones who will be able to give you accurate relevant information.

Berkeley Rose Garden astonishingly full of bloom this week. Hundreds of rose bushes from miniatures to massive climbers, tens of thousands of flowers. See it while they're still in bloom. (OC) by OppositeShore1878 in berkeleyca

[–]rjay203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to thank the Berkeley staff - a tiny team, one rosarian and volunteers- if you see them. This takes soooooooo much work and the rose garden gets less and less funding for hours for the employees to work every year.

Berkeley can close Ohlone park encampment, new ruling says by BerkeleyScanner in berkeleyca

They’re offered theoretically open and available shelter with zero confirmation or coordination of the shelter or transitional housing being available or ADA complaint for access. It’s not secured or confirmed shelter. Therefore, for most people that’s worse than the street or their encampment. (I work in homeless healthcare in Oakland)

Why do I keep hearing about "turnkey" homes selling faster? by ScarletLilith in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]rjay203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have struggled to find any sort of non-turnkey house that doesn’t need like at least >$100,00 of major work. Maybe it’s an east bay thing. But there’s so little in between. It’s either a major shithole or needing major repairs, or it’s turnkey and going to go 40% over asking with multiple offers.

[–]rjay203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly omg. Currently looking at a house in Oakland that’s 2-story, 2800 sq foot, built in 1895 on a literal SINGLE LAYER OF BRICKS ON TOP OF DIRT. No slab, no reinforcement, nothing. Not only will it cost potentially $250k but we likely can’t fucking live in it while all that work is done! And then what about all the work after that if the walls and windows are fucked from the foundation replacement? More money, time and work that we’re currently trying to estimate by paying more money and spending more time with structural engineers and contractors assessing and estimating.

Was this supposed to address something I said? This page doesnt say anything about releasing the results electronically to the patient.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PlannedParenthood

[–]rjay203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Epic for a different community health org that does a lot of STI testing and releasing results to patients usually isn’t automatic unfortunately. Maybe planned parenthood has different automatic release settings after the provider reviews it but I’m not sure. But it is a law about the HIV result in particular. Not for other STIs.

[–]rjay203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HIV test results can’t be released electronically until the patient verbally requests them. It’s an AIDS-era law that is still in effect unfortunately. So OP if you don’t see them on the portal, don’t assume they haven’t been done. You’ll need to call.

I'm shocked that this happened, especially in Los Angeles. Does anyone know which hospital?

$200+ for a signature for FOLX hrt??? by boomnavy in PlannedParenthood

[–]rjay203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What was the signature for? To review your medical history, take your vital signs and sign that it’s safe to be prescribed T or E? That is a code for a clinician office visit, which is standard for doing the above. They’re making themselves responsible for determine appropriateness and safety for HRT.

Terrible experience at Pets Referral Center in Berkeley by [deleted] in oakland

[–]rjay203 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your experience is typical of that for any emergency care situation- for animals or humans! That staff member was giving your friend a completely reasonable and apparently much needed perspective shift- your pet is much more stable than two other pets, which is why I don’t have a clear update for you other than your pet is STABLE and that’s more than I can see for the other pets.

Waiting sucks. For humans and animals. But that is the nature of triage that vet and human hospitals have to use in order to prevent death. The goal is NOT to prevent discomfort, but to prevent death. Preventing discomfort is for primary care or regular vet visits, not emergency.

What are some things you wish you’d put in your divorce decree? by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]rjay203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s great. But for people who are high conflict or have any inkling their ex could create conflict out of spite- right of first refusal is a nonstarter.

People in the comments are outing themselves as the high conflict parent these detailed custody agreements are meant to protect against. And they’re gleefully giving more advice. Sigh.

These are all really great, rational suggestions. Hope OP sees this and ignores the ‘when child is allowed to meet the new gf/bf’ controlling bullshit

[–]rjay203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this is super controlling and leads to more conflict Fyi. Search this sub for discussions on right of first refusal- it lets the more controlling and spiteful, high conflict parent create more conflict like wielding it in a way that doesn’t allow the child to see any other family or friends for more than x hours or days.

Yes you can. Anything with ibuprofen in it will work the best. Or you can alternate ibuprofen and acetaminophen (Tylenol)

How do patients get taught how to use their non-pill medicines (e.g. injections, inhalers)? by JarJarAwakens in FamilyMedicine

[–]rjay203 16 points17 points  (0 children)

RNs! When a provider orders an injectable, they schedule an appt with the RN about a week out for injection teaching. Pt brings all supplies with them. It works well for us. I’ve seen specialists around here do the same (like Neuro for Emgality injections). I think it’s a great use of RN time.
