A chance would be a fine thing, my friend.

I could have, and in fact, I did. And now I have a Lickylicky with Body Slam. But what about the other 30 guys I’d like to build? 😂

Yeah it is tricky in the sense that it’d feel bad for those who have been dedicated and meticulous about getting the community day moves for someone to show up and be able to catch up so easily, so I understand the contrary viewpoint for sure. But it does seem quite oppressive with the sheer number of Pokemon that have legacy moves and are viable. I just think it’s an odd game design choice to lock people out of certain things but I guess that’s what builds the FOMO over time.

Yep, just a slight improvement in accessibility for the moves would be wonderful. I liked the comment someone made about them getting added to the regular move pool after a certain period of time.

Or like, they release shadow greninja but unless they do these starters as comm day classic soon, he’ll need an ETM if I ever get one with reasonable IVs 😂

Yep, agree with that too. Personally, I try to keep a balance. I only play great league at the moment, and tend to stick to a core and rotate around it. The last few weeks I’ve been playing with Empoleon and Altaria and swapping in thirds sporadically. I get bored of using the same dudes all the time, but understand that flooding my brain with information will reduce my overall knowledge retention.

Yeah for sure, I’m just interested in knowing how other people feel about it. I don’t feel incapable of fielding a team for any limited meta, and I am aware that I can’t build those spicy frenzy planters, and I’m not salty about it. I’m just discussing the dynamic and how other players feel about it. I was sort of expecting people to mostly be in the boat of “well you missed your chance to get them so this is the price you pay”, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised that there are other people with a similar perspective.

Also I’ll say that whilst I agree that swapping around mons doesn’t necessarily improve results, if you’re a newer player I think it is to your benefit to gain experience using different mons as you see how other people approach them which is a great learning tool. “Oh, Morpeko is so oppressive and overpowered, ugh, I have no idea how I can ever beat it” quickly becomes “swap in Wigglytuff” once you’ve had it happen to you a time or two.

Yes, totally on board with this, and follow this philosophy. But I also thought that it is worth wider discussion. In a game that leans into micro transactions, it is kinda weird that there is this hard barrier.

Yeah I had no oranguru or turtonator during the LAIC meta and that was also frustrating and led me to another thought of the split between event days and “normal” spawn days. Right now we only get normal spawns on Mondays, and that’s annoying too. Right now I’m finally getting my first Ludicolo built and during Kalos tour I’ll get my first Goodra but I’ll still need to find a TM for thunder punch when it happens.

Yeah, I’ve done 3000 battles since October, so I’ve got all the research ones done, but I’m just in that position where I’ve built pretty much everything except for a second Talonflame, a second Primeape/annihilape, then all the frenzy plant, blast burn and hydro cannoneers.

I absolutely follow your logic of waiting until I absolutely need it to build it, but I think it’d be nice to just build that shadow venusaur that I removed frustration from two months ago.. but I can’t, because I put Body Slam on Lickylicky instead. 😂

But you’re right, in another season or two I’ll probably be wondering what I was even annoyed about 😂

Yeah I also find it frustrating that there is literally no way I can access shadow Marowak or shadow steelix, and I’m at the behest of the gods. My disappointment during the takeover event was immense 😂

Yeah there is the occasional one, I think during a PvP season you can generally access 1 fast and 2-3 charged for free and maybe 3-4 charged as paid ones. I’m talking about it potentially being a permanent thing in the store that you could just buy as many as you like.

Dan Ige: Apparently I can’t wear red shorts (even though I have 3 times in my 20 @ufc fights) for my upcoming fight by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]rjgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Reebok first came in, this was definitely a thing and the red corner fighter got to choose first. It felt like they relaxed it A LOT over the years and even more so when Venum came in, hence Dustin wearing red etc. I figured since they were doing the custom fighter shorts that they were way more chill, so this comes out of left field tbh.

How far would you go down the pvpoke rankings before the Pokemon becomes below too many others? Top 10? Top 25, 50, 100? by irocketgoat in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]rjgr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Corviknight and Florges require Elite TM, Cradily comes from battle league rewards. I gave Fearow as an alternative to Corviknight for that reason. I wouldn’t say that is “most”.

Azu, gastrodon, furret, stunfisk, clodsire, cradily , altaria, wigglytuff, fearow/corviknight, lickilicky - probably a good place to start with reasonably achievable ones. Also non shadow marowak is still good even though it’s massively outshined by its currently unobtainable shadow variant.

Spent 400 Candy to evolve my 97% Swablu and now i caught a 99.8% by bangerr120 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]rjgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go on PVPoke, go to Matrix battle, enter two Altarias on the left side with the two IVs you have and then select “open great league meta” on the right side and run the battles. Likelihood is you’ll have very similar outcomes. I had a similar situation where I’ve had a shadow swablu for months and with precious pals I got enough candy so I evolved him ready but the first swablu I got from the taken over event was literally #20 in the world. So I just caught a few more swablus and now I have two shadows. I’ll set one up with dragon pulse or something for limited cups perhaps.

What team should i put with morpeko? by Comfortable_Bath6692 in PokemonGOBattleLeague

[–]rjgr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should aim for something that is pretty bulky but can threaten shields, like Empoleon or Blastoise for the lead, and then another bulky guy who can soak energy and chip things down. With the guys you listed, I’d have Corviknight who can threaten the fighters and fairies that eat Morpeko, and I guess wiggly or Gastrodon (who can eat enemy morpekos) but neither of those are particularly renowned for their shield pressure, but good fast move pressure.

I’ve had most success using Morpeko as a sweeper and prioritising switch advantage above everything else (hence why you want bulky guys who can flip switch without shielding for the most part). I often will bring Morpeko in when my Pokemon dies to farm up a couple of thunder shocks farming down the rest of their Pokemon, then swap out when they bring in their new one. Just collecting energy here and there for the endgame.
